Q:
Yes Yes i did a search and found zilcho so moving on:
I have an early 1971 240z and the mechanizms for the doors were removed during the disassembly of the vehicle for prep job.And they were also broken and threads were stripped so my Friend and i went to the boneyard and took the mechanisms off a 280z .
Well when i started to put the glass and door mechanism assembly together,i don't think they're the same. For one only two of the four holes line up where you have the door handle attach to the mechanism, seems like it is longer, and the second concern i have is that as the window goes down,it sticks halfway and when you push on the glass you can unstick it and it goes down.
what do you guys and gals think? Just doesn't look like it is right for the car,did they have any significant changes in the mechanisms from70-78 or are they all the same?

I'm pretty sure the mechanisms in these cars changed a lot.
I know 78s are completely odd ball compared to the other years.
You usually have to find something near the same build date...

1. Did you search in the 70-83 Tech forum?
2. What did you search for?
There have been numerous discussions on swapping doors between the different S30 models in the tech forum. You might want to search for that. To answer your question, it depends upon the year of the 280Z. The mechanisms from an earlier 280Z should work. I have seen differing answers to the cut-off date, but I would tend to trust Tony D's answer on the subject. I just don't feel like searching for it right now.

78's are different than all those OTHER oddball models. If the amount of 10mm's are different...Abort the mission! Norm K

Secondly, why didn't you post this in the tech forum?
1972 240z w/L28, tokico shocks and springs, and a 5 speed waiting. Also running high performance ultra mega blinker fluid, that's at least an extra 50hp to the wheels.
1987 Toyota Supra Turbo 5-speed. Belongs to me until my friend get's back from Iraq.

Update:I have found that ONLY 1970-73 240Z window mechanism works for the 240.Maybe early 260.But 1975-On WILL NOT WORK for a 240Z.Please make a note for those who is looking for this information.
