Q:
Ok guys just looking for some advice. My brother is looking for a car and found a mitsu 3000gt '94 w/81000 on it, the guy is asking 6500 the car seems to be in excellent condition. I dont know anything about mitsubishi's and was wondering if any of you knew about them, like common problems or even if this is worth it? thanks

sorry but in my experience mitsu is japans bastard child, i don't care how fast some of the evo's are, if you can only get a 12 month warranty then obviously the factory doesn't think too highly of them either.

Last 3000GT that I worked on, took me 4 hrs of trouble shooting before finding out what is wrong with it. It was one of the main harness that got toasted and the ECU was burned. after 1400 on parts the car finally runs. The owner was so happy since it was a VR4 model and dealer already costed him $2000 without properly correcting the problem. As far as performance goes, twin turbo on that car somehow doesnt run that fast, atleast from what I exepected.
A:
is the car turboed or NA?
if it isnt turboed, thats wayyy too much money for a FWD car.

all wheel? 4 wheel? FWD? transverse engine are they not. look like a soap bar for sure, I see so many though, more than any other "sport car" I am puzzled. not a new thing.

the base model (160 HP) and the SL model (220 HP) are FWD. the VR-4 is AWD. If the car isnt the VR-4( turbo model), it is a beater. I can't see forking out $6000 for a beater.

Even the VR4's are not worth the money. My brother in law got rid of his because it was a big pain in the ass. If he's not Mechnically inclined this car is a big no no to have.
Progress:
Z32 Had to sell for DD 06 Sentra :(
S30 one of these days I will get around to putting it all back together.

I was sort of thinking the same thing after reading what all came on these cars. I mean I work on my own car. And thought getting one of those would be a pain. They say they also steer with the rear? If I got one I would strip it to its necessitys. I have always liked the 3000gt. It is like that bad bastard child that comes back to haunt the big car manufactures by out doing them. Though I am not a fan of the EVO. Always liked Mitsu' and was somewhat disapointed when I saw the EVO. But they kept making the Eclipse, so I dont say much.

I haven't been in a 3000gt but every other Mitsubishi I've been in are so cramped inside and they're not exactly small cars either. I cant even fit in the new Magnas without my legs going thru the dash almost...

Those pesky counter balance shafts always seem to seize up at the worst moments... don't they!
They have poor quality interiors, Tranny does indeed go BOOM, and the overall design of the engine is of mediocre quality and leaves much to be desired. Turbo GSX or not I would turn it down and get something else that would be accustom to DD rather than a "beater" or street racer.

my brother has a 98 base model, pearl white, in EXCELLENT condition. SOHC motor, 5 speed, with 93k miles...he paid 6k for it!! Parts are cheap, and maintenance on the SOHC's are easy!! A little too much money for that one

You guys are wimps, I have a daily driver eagle talon and I only have to work on it about 8 hours for every week of driving. Keeps me out of trouble and my metric tools never get lonely. :)

Are you being sarcastic? That's 416 hours a year just so your car works? lol

I wanted a 3kgt when I was a kit
if its a base model or SL don't get it, its slow as $hit, to give you an idea of how slow it is a 2GNT eclipse can beat it in the quarter mile from what I hear yep little 4 cylinder beats the big V6.
now the VR4 is a totally different animal. Its just rediculous fast you step on the throttle and you see the MPH just climb and it don't stop. You'll be doing 120 and the car won't even break a sweat. And the handling whew you take that thing around a corner and it just claws its way through your just thinking this to yourself how can something so huge grip the ground so well. Of course its a monster though and I heard a monster maintenance very hard to work on because the engine bay is so cramped. Your left leg will get bigger also.
