I had an '87 CRX Si and loved it (for a FWD car). I could drive the crap out of it and still get over 35mpg. If I took it easy, I'd get 42mpg. The car only weighed 2000 lbs, so it would be virtually impossible to duplicate today. With the emmisions regs and safety equipment, cars are WAY heavier than they used to be. The days of light cars are gone. People rag on the 350Z for being overweight, but in reality, Nissan did a decent job for the money. To get that car much lighter would have meant going to lighter materials which would have driven the cost way up.

Yes, Honda should bring back the CRX...and there has been rumors that they will, it just won't look good or have the performance that we're used to...but then again...they could suprize us.
Next year the Smart cars are expected to hit the shores here in America...I hope.. and I want the roadster.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smart_Roadster
Thats prolly the closest thing that will match up with the CRX.
anyways..as for CRX's, they are still around, and some have been rebuilt by many into cars better than they were stock, for the older first gen (84-87) the best place for to get info, parts, discussions, etc is RedPepperRacing.com and for all other Honda's in general, the best freindliest forum would have to be HondaSwap.com
Look at my fleet....
87 CRX SI-T..being built for autocross
86 Civic SI...parts car
74 260Z...drifter and partial DD
76 280Z...roadrace, drift, autocross
95 Subaru Legacy...DD and wheel hauler
Z's and Honda can live in harmony....
A:

They already did and it's called the Honda FIT!
HAHAHA!!!
Seriously, side impact requirements in the US market have made any low profile/low budget/fun car a thing of the past.
Along the lines of what Justin said, they could do it, but the cost would take it out of the "low budget" arena...
And yes, Honda's and Z's can live together in harmony. My Civic sits next to my 240Z on a regular basis and as of yet, no one has come to blows over it... ;)
72 WooHoo!! In good shape too...
72 Rolling Chassis (RB or LS1?)
80 NA SCCA ST2/CP (Car + Tree = Dead)
82 NA 3.0L the rust monster got it

Ahh...the more honda hate I see from the other Z members makes me ashamed to even own a Z. Not all Honda's are rice, or riced out, or even built as a joke....but there are some out there that will make you think twice about lining up with them at a drag strip or on the autocross course. I love the 28-32 mpg I get in mine, one gets slightly less when I'm at 9spi, but I still give 90% of the cars on the road a challenge to beat me to the next cone. Hell, my CRX is even faster the my built Z, and far more stable at carners as well....the Z is no match for it at times... And nothing gives me a chubby more than when I show a $30-45,000+ car up on the autocross course with a $2-5000 car.
End the hate posts...it only makes you look dumb.

Back in 1993 I owned a 1991 CRX Si for 2 years that my wife drove.
I found that it outhandled the Z on very tight curves, but when I drove on bigger high speed sweeper curves that it just didn't feel as stable as my Z.
Also it had never been wrecked, but yet it had a number of dash rattles.
All in all I liked driving my Z better.

The handling SHOULD be better in a tiny car though, no? It's like the old Miata defense in saying "my car would thrash yours at the auto-x track" and so it should being how small it is. I couldn't even shoe horn myself into either of those cars being 6 ft 4" so all that is irrelivant to me personally lol
I dont have anything against the CRX myself as a car, I just think it's funny to see what "some" people do to them.

I'm 6'2", 229 lbs, and I fit very comfortable in he first gen crx....that car was made for long legged Americans just like the 240Z was developed for 6' Americans. I can't fit in any other car comfortably...so that why I'm stuck with the cars I have.
And when my Red Z has Tokico Illumina's and Tokico 1" drop springs...it's stable in the corners...infact I've set up the car for drifting and autocross...but for autocross...it's just not competivtive enough.
The CRX also has Illumina's, but the front has the stock torsion bars, and the rear has 450lb springs, smaller light wheels and Advan A008's. setting it up for a nasty season next year, or to sell it to someone that wants to go to nations for autocrossing.
My white Z has Bilsteins and Eibachs, bigger sway bars, and other things...but I haven't got it on the road yet...so I can't tell how stable it will be.
My Civic has Tokico HP's, Eibach springs, and rolls on 13" Advan A048's...set up for a brisk daily driver on a stock engine...but I blew the engine up drifting it last year...and now it's just driveway art.
And the 95 Subaru...all stock...and my legs are kinda cramped up while driving, but I don't care, since it's really the wifes DD. But I like the way I kinda fit in it, I'm sure if I played around with a race seat in it then my legs would fit, and I really wouldn't mind getting another one to play with for motorsports....since in Japan they sell the full suspension systems for it and they have some over there twin turbo'ed...
And yes...what some people do to their honda's is funny, but they do it to get attention or for a joke....but other people loves their Honda's and they keep them for the reliability, fuel economy, or the ease of makeing them better than what they should be.
Think of it if you owned Porche and a datsun...and your on a lot of porche boards and some of the other members ridicule the datsuns in their midst.....
A:

I can see your point, I guess I have a somewhat biased personal opinion because I know a guy locally who has one of them and he's a complete jackass and those photos of the riced out CRX's just crack me up lol

The CRX is dead, let it be. No way will it ever come back to "glory" its time has passed. The CRX itself is a well built car but a good portion of drivers that belong on the short bus make the car a joke. Fart can exhaust, retard wings, all the rice crap they can get from autozone, and it ruins the name for the enire car and not just the retarded driver.
1972 240z w/L28, tokico shocks and springs, and a 5 speed waiting. Also running high performance ultra mega blinker fluid, that's at least an extra 50hp to the wheels.
1987 Toyota Supra Turbo 5-speed. Belongs to me until my friend get's back from Iraq.
A:

kinda like how everyone wants a new 240Z instead of the 350Z....
i like crx's...especially the stock looking ones packing b16 turbos....ahhhhh.
hey airjockie....how does your 260Z do going sideways???

lets just say is still uncontrollable...but that will change after the 15th....
and I've had 3 of the D1 drivers take it out at the events, and they end up spinning as bad as I do.... I just need to figuare out the tires to run and setting, maybe a little more suspension work and better steering angle. Plus I got to get my foot to lay off the gas when I break traction.
A:

I think the exact same things can be said for some over zelous young kids who buy a Z (or any other sporty Nissan) and do just that, add on a bunch of lame 'look at me' kragens/chucks/checkers/autozone/pepboys/napa/jc whitney/ebay parts....heck they wouldn't make them for Z's if people didn't buy them right?

You can't blame a car or a company for what the owners do. So for anyone to imply that a car that has to go through lots of serious engineering and business plans to even be considered to be built not be simply because the used car market and the new price tag makes it affordable to young people who some tend to add on tacky parts is simply stupid.
I hope they do make it and if it looks stylish, gets excellent mileage, has adequate safety equiptment and is affordable I'd get one for sure.

where is the three legged pissing dog stance?
in anycase, CRXs are great car, although a handfull due to short wheelbase.
