Head light modification in pipeline?

Interior Exterior

Q:
Has any one heard of a head lamp mod in the pipeline? I just had my 1000 mile service and had a couple of issues to be resolved. First was the bubble in the dash, on order now. The second issue was with the scratches in the head lamps. I believe this issue has been discussed before and pics given so I won't repost. My scratches inside the lens, on the black plastic were just like some one else who had their headlamps replaced. When rothrock went to put my warranty request in they were told not to fix the headlamps yet. Lotus said that they had a fix in the pipeline and it would adress this when it comes outs. I wonder if this means they may be dealing with the lens burning issues as well.
side note:
Rothrock was a pleasure to deal with and shawn did some very nice work for me. I had the stage II installed along with the drivers lights when he did my 1000 mile service. I set it all up in less than a week. Stage II rocks! Can't prove it's any faster, the butt meter is not even close to that sensitive, but it sounds like it should now. Can't wait to hear what it sounds like after it soots up a little.

Aren't the scratches to which you refer and the headlight burning thing the same? I initially thought the dealer scratched mine when they re-aimed the headlights for me. Then I watched it burning one day in the same manner. Here are some pics from the day that I first noticed the problem.
I was the first to point out this problem to my dealership. They did contact Lotus and were told that a fix was in the works and not to replace the parts until they had it done. It'll be awhile before my next service, so as long as they have by then, I'm cool.

Yes, those are burn marks...
A:
I had these marks on my headlights. Not sure if these are burn marks or what...
The didn't really look like burrs from the dremel used to cut out the lamp openings, but it could be.
Just adding this pic for informational purposes.

Here is one of my headlight covers...

That's the best picture of it I've seen yet, Stan.
With a solar chart, sextant, calculus, and a gps, you could figure out what day each of those scorched arcs was made and which way the car was facing.
I'm curious to see what Lotus comes up with for a fix. So long as it can't catch fire or fog the inside of the headlight lens too much, it's just cosmetic. I can wait.
A:
WOW! I just picked my Lotus up last week and noticed the exact same pattern in the headlight. Mine looks identical to that last picture from Stan. I thought someone was just careless aiming the light.

Or, if you assume he is parking level, you might be able to figure out his latitude without the GPS.

I'm wondering if it is possible to adjust the headlight assembly for the low-beams so that they are further rearward (recessed) relative to the opening in that black plastic trim. On my car, the driver's side lamp lens sits about 5 mm or so farther rearward than the passenger lens relative to the plastic trim and there are no burn marks around the driver's side lens, only around the passenger lens. Apparently, on the driver side, the lens is recessed far enough so that the sun can't hit at an angle to be refracted onto the plastic. Whaddya think?
A:
As you know the sun uses the low beam lens like a magnifying glass to melt/burn those headlight covers. I just replaced my headlight covers a couple of days ago because mine were severely burned. The dealer got me new ones under warranty. Although, I knew if I didn't do something to prevent these things from burning again in a matter of days the new ones would be looking just like the old ones did.
So to try to stop this, I fabricated these little covers from a small sheet of aluminum that I purchased from Ace hardware. I cut them out with tin snips, bent them to shape, and painted them Black. It took less than an hour to make them. I let the paint dry for a day and I just finished installing them a few minutes ago. Hopefully, they work. I'll let you know tomorrow how well they worked.
Here's a link to details on how to do this yourself. I made mine a little different than the ones in this link. But this link is where I got the idea.

I like the fix. Looks like lotus should be taking notes. I would guess the fix that is in the pipe line is similar. Stans pics look like burn marks. The first pic shown by ice is pretty much exactly like mine. I am not sure they are burn marks, they look just like scratches more than melting, but who knows. The dealer had my car less than a week before I picked and the marks were there already. My car sits outside a bit while I'm at work and it has not gotten worse yet. Just glad to here there is a fix in the works.

They're all burn marks from the sun, just varying degrees. If you face your car into the sun on a hot bright day around noon time you can watch it happen. I've noticed that some cars don't have as much of a problem with it as others. It seems that on some cars the low beam lens sits further back inside the headlight cover and that appears to help minimize the damage. Mine started off looking like Icedog_16's photos but within a couple of weeks they looked like Stan's.
A:
Pig, you're right. I haven't looked at mine lately. Kind of one of those 'out of sight, out of mind' deals. I'll have to check them if I remember. But, all of these look like the burning issue. Mine aren't as bad as I noticed them about a month after having my headlights aimed and my car is garaged both at home and at work. Any damage would have to be while it's outside and most of that time is spent driving, so the sun's angle relative to the car would not be static.
A:
Has anyone heard anything more about the headlight fix? I found some burn marks on one of the headlight housing yesterday.
A:
When I got my 1000 mile at Princeton a week or so ago the tech said that there's an "eyelid" fix coming and you need to ask for it.
I asked for it.
I'm going to call to see when it's in.
I wonder if the fix includes new bezels to replaced the burnt ones?

Jimbo,
Keep us posted. I should have an 06 by the time it comes in. So hopefully it will just be on the car.
Thanks
Ryan

I hope so, seeing as how badly some of them area burnded. I was on nights for the last month so mine didn't get any worse, but it's a new month and I'm back on days.
I am on the list for the fix when it comes in. They said they would call me, but I think I am going to have to be proactive on this one. Especially since they didn't call back about my replacement dash yet. It's been three weeks. It will all have to wait till I get back from this trip in a couple of weeks.

Well, it's been over a month and I've had no more problems. My car has sat outside all day long in the sun several times since I made the covers. The covers I made are working great! Hopefully, Lotus will come up with a similar inexpensive fix for everyone.

Nice fix Pig!
