Head light modification in pipeline?

Interior Exterior

Q:
I have now had the covers in place since June with no problems. They stay in place, don't effect the headlight pattern, and completely eliminate the burn. My bet is that Lotus will come out with a simular fix..

I got the official headlight burn eliminator pieces from my dealer in the mail yesterday. I live 3 hours from the nearest dealer so i decided to do it myself. My question is do they go around the brights or dims? All they are are some black plastic cup shaped rings. Aaron
A:
The rings go around the low beams. Please post pictures of the parts and install.
A:
Ok, i'll post everything when i get a chance.

Just got my car back from the dealer. Here is a pic of the new headlight assembly as promised.
A:
Wow. I like "pigs" much more appealing. If his works like he says it does, I'll go that route. Looks like a home made (poorly cut tube on a jiggly bandsaw) job. Great job "Pig"! Now I have to go find my aluminum.

wonder if putting tint similar to window tint on the headlight covers would solve the problem.... you could have a graded tint so the part towards the front of the car (through which the headlights shine) is not significantly darkened
A:
Thank you for the pictures. The Lotus solution does not seem very elegant. Have you noticed any change in the light pattern for the low beams, particularly along the edges?
A:
Now I've seen the pictures, pipeline seems an apt choice of word!

Just wondering out loud. If Lotus plans on retrofitting these ugly things into the cars, would they first replace the covers because the gouge marks would still be visible. Also, why wasn't this issue discovered long ago? Is it never sunny enough on the other side of the pond?

i picked up my 06 last week and it does not have the new assembly - could lotus be using a new/better plastic for the lenses?
A:
Ugh! I'll take those teeny little scratch marks any day over that!

The headlight covers are pretty expensive. Those "extensions" will hide the small marks on my cover nicely. And if the "glue" that looks like it has squeezed in there is done more neatly, it should look fine. I need to get on the list to get my "extensions"...

Sure it is. It's just that most/many people this side of the pond don't really care for such cosmetic issues on cars. Sorry.
Not that many cars with stone chip protection film here either.
Bye, Arno.

Nope. I got new housings as well. They aren't cheap - about $700 and change each. I believe this is just a retrofit for all as Lotus would probably rather save the tooling cost associated with completely redesigned housings for the next-gen Elise.

OK, I know someone made their own headlight lens cover but I can't find that thread. It looked much better than the one above as it tapered in size with the top being further out and the sides cut back. They just took some aluminum, cut to fit, bent and painted it black. Looked like it was from the factory more than the factory fix!
Does anyone remember seeing this one or which thread it is in?
Please post a link if you find it.

Look at post 11 in this thread.

Well don't I feel dumb
Thanks....that is what I was looking for
