Q:
All the prior posts suggested that one shouldn't use car polish and clay on the starshield. I sent an email to Zaino and here is the response I got.
> Hi: I have had Zaino polish on a couple of my cars and they work very well. Thank you for the wonderful product. Recently I purchased a new car that came with 3M paint protection film. Can I apply Zaino product on it?
Yes...
Thank You,

Any comments?

From their site: "Best of all, Zaino Show Car Polish™ creates an award-winning finish without the use of abrasives or harmful silicones."
It sounds like it is a wax in effect.
Clay will scar the soft surface of the starshield, thus why you don't want to use it on that surface.

This may be semantics, but while I've read that clay should not be used, I've never heard that polish cannot. I spoke to a detailer recently who told me clay can indeed be used, as long as it's a very fine (re: abrasiveness).

Don't ever recall anyone including zaino saying you couldn't use the zaino product BUT they do say not to use clay bar on the protective film

Anything abrasive runs a hole rights through the starshield after a bit. Best to avoid it. Wax or Rejex is OK!!

I've clayed (Zaino) mine a couple of times with no ill effects. From what I understand, the 3M stuff has a clear coat of some sort. I think if you're gentle you shouldn't have a problem.

Great, thanks for the information. Sounds like Zaino is safe to use and I should go easy on the clay.
Got my '06 just three weeks ago. I'll clean and clay the car, put on some stripes before Zaino it. Of course, not before my first autoX.

I have used Zaino for a couple of years now, and just did my Lotus a couple of weeks ago. I didn't intend to use the clay bar on the Starshield, but you can't see the stuff, so after accidently doing a small piece, i cleaned it and it was stll perfect. Wound up doing the whole car with the clay bar, but just use plenty of the water and car wash spray, and go verrrrrry lightly. Put 2 coats on and the car looks amazing. The only thing that you will find, is that a bit of the bar will get into the seam where the Starshield ends and the paint begins. Just give it a day or 2 to dry and it comes right off.
Welcome, and enjoy the Lotus.

Just a quick one...Rejex or Zaino better?
A:
I use Rejex, so do alot of people. When wiping off the dirt and mud, it helps alot more than wax - but it needs to be reapplied about every 3 weeks.
It might vary for you....
People here love both products!
A:
I have used only Rejex and I am not sure if it's doing what it should or not.

I have used Zaino products for the past 2 years on other cars, but not on protective film (not a lotus owner--yet, S on order). The Zaino polishes (Z-2 Pro and Z-5 Pro) are a polymer (no wax) system with no abrasives whatsoever, so there should not be any scratching issues at all. My only concern would be possible discoloration or hazing on the plastic film, but if Saul says its OK, its Ok. Zaino is amazing stuff for depth and wetness of shine (matches or exceeds the best waxes such as P21S in personal experience, and durability is far superior), even if you do feel like you are playing with a chemistry set---its not hard if you read the directions and pay attention. I will be applying it to my car the moment I get it.

I had Zaino on my previous car. It is a lot of work to apply it properly (Clay, Z-2 and Z5). After that, I use the Z-6 spray after washing my car. It still have close to the original shine after 1.5 years. Z-6 is probabily less work to apply than RejeX (just spray and buff dry).

I've used both rejex and zaino, IMHO zaino gives a better shine but rejex much easier to work with so will probably stick with this, tho detailers paradise has a new sealant supposed to be quite good, can't remember the name.
Just checked, it's actually a wax and called epic:
