Nude Carbon fiber and UV stability

Interior Exterior

Q:
Just noticed on Sector111's (new) website (very nice, BTW) that ReVerie
recommends lacquer or epoxy clear coat for their CF pieces. Anyone have an opinion on this? I really don't want to pull my scoops off!
A:
Yup, they will yellow over time.

They dont come finished? How much is a clear coat job from a painter? Were about to get a bunch a stuff to, glad you posted this.

Yup, like Sleepless said, it will yellow over time. Epoxy does not do well with UV rays, best option is a clear coat urethane (car paint).
Be sure to prep the surfaces properly, mold wax is probably on the CF parts (left over from the mfg process).
A:
One thing to note about clear coat over the carbon part is that the surface of the part is porous, often full of invisible pin holes if no Gel Coat is used. These pinholes show up only when one paints the part. Most cosmetic carbon parts such as hoods and things found on Import Tuners are laid up over a clear Gel Coat, and hence are UV protected, and easier to paint. If you are into doing lots of prep, the clearcoat option produces an amazing looking part, but it usually involves more than just a shot of paint

Different people have different objectives for the finish - like for it to be painted body color.
