Owner's Manual mod

Interior Exterior

Q:
Okay, maybe this doesn't qualify as a "mod" per se, but hey- it sure solved an annoying problem. Namely that, after every track session or canyon run, all my Elise documents are strewn about the boot.
It that bugs you too, try this:

I put my owner's manual in the slot over the battery spine first, just so I have something to grab onto once it's in there, because it's stuck in there so well. Are you guys with problems putting it in there like that, or lengthwise?? If the latter, I'm not surprised that it comes right out again.

Nope, I'm putting it in spine-first (as shown in the picture). It still doesn't stay put on the track, though (for me, anyway).

You guys are running at the track with stuff in your trunk?

Just that, nothing else. Not really intentionally, I just always forget it's in there. Last time I left my chapstick in the trunk, and found out how hot it really gets in there. Liquid wax anyone?

Wonder how the manual reacts to battery acid?
Why do you need it in the car?

I like having it around. It has emergency numbers in it, and is a convenient place to store insurance and registration. The odds of acid getting to it in that position are pretty darned low.
Besides, Lotus went to the trouble of making that cute little slot for it.

My suggested modification to the Owner's Manual is tying a string around the binding to expedite removing it from the slot. After you convince the stopping officer to let you into the trunk, you don't want him/her getting nervous about what you're doing back there.

Unfortunately, my battery cover does not have the slot. Their fix to the manual falling out seems to have been to make me find another place to put it.

A zip-lock is a must, I agree with MyElise. Acid, rainwater and paper don't
mix well for long. Don

That's what I do too. I always seem to get water in there somehow when washing the car. So I keep my manual in a zip lock which also keeps it pretty snug in the the slot.
