My latest mod

Interior Exterior

Q:
It's not perfect, but for 20 bucks in materials it's not bad at all.
Used Duplicolor Import Car Spray Paint Bordeaux Red #959. The paint code inside my door sill is B95. Seems to be a great match.
Ordered a billet oil cap today to go with the covers.

looks nice.
how well are these spray paintjobs holding up to the engine bay heat?
I know others have done this mod (stan) and wonder if the heat is peeling the paint...
A:
mine are fine. those panels dont get that hot.
A:
Sorry for the huge pictures guys. When I resized them, they came out like an Andy Warhol painting.

Looks awesome! How hard was it to mask out the logos?

I don't think you mask out the logos -- Paint everything with the base then detail in the logos.
A:
Yikes, sounds like you have to have a really steady hand. Is this how everyone is doing it? Or is there an easier way? Light sanding or something?
A:
The easiest way to paint the logos is to get a paint pen. I got silver at a local hobby shop and did the lotus letters in silver. The hobby enamel has held up just fine in the engine heat.

Engine covers are holding up fine to the heat -- no discernible deterioration.

I used a paint pen too. Have to be steady. All in all, for 20 bucks in materials, I'm happy with how it turned out.
It's not perfect and if you look hard in person, you might see a couple of flaws, but it's hand sprayed, just like the Elise.

Wanna do mine? Yours looks good.
A:
Mine, perfect color-matched and clearcoated, it holding up great. The paint pen needs touching up (the silver paint seems to have shrunk a bit), but that's easy.
A:
The paint has held up perfectly over the 10,000 miles since it's application. You can also cover the white edges of the liner (near the engine cover hinges) with a black marker to render them less obtrusive. This engine trim mod is easy to DIY since the covers come off so easily. You can do the main painting in your garage or yard in a few moments, and then do the lettering by hand at the kitchen table when the coast is clear. Apparently some dealers charge a pretty penny for this mod.

Thanks!

one guy used vasoline to cover the letters and sprayed over everything. when the paint dried, he wiped off the vasoline and his letters weren't effected at all

I bought a lotus enamel hood badge on e-bay, drilled two holes in the engine cover and bolted it on. The badge covers the logo perfectly without any shaving.
A:
hey guys
all of ur engine covers or valve cover covers look real nice....
A:
wow, great job guys. As someone who also did this mod, i can attest to how difficult it is to get it to look as nice as you all have. I'm happy with mine but they're far from perfect.

Thanks to all the helpful posts, I decided to paint my engine covers last weekend. My original plan was to paint the logo yellow and green as some others had. However, after taping it off and painting the rest, I decided it looked great with a black logo! (Now I'll have to get a matching Sector 111 black hood logo...)

Hey these look great and all…………..but…………….how much weight did it add to the car?
