V1 and Laser Jammer Install

Its only a matter of time before the man wants to interfere with the fun, so I installed a laser jammer and a Valentine One radar detector and concealed display.
It was quite the project, I took out the passenger seat, half the dash, the hood area, and front grill. Thanks to those who posted about removing the dash, it helped a lot.
To start, I had to take out the front grill and find a place for the jammer modules. They fit right between the two upper mounting brackets for the grill, but it leaves no room for the mounting brakets for the modules. So I went to Staples and got Large paper holders (the black ones with the shiney removable levers). I mounted it to the fiberglass, two to each module and made sure it was perfectly level and straight, then removed the levers. Suprisingly very solid. I had to dremmel the two fins off to make room for the jammers.

Then came the task of running the wires to the cockpit. I got a piece of cable (like cablevision cable), taped the metal pieces and starting fishing through. Took out the small panel in the wheel well and fished to the right of the grill and then followed the turn signal wires, then into the side well and to the door jamb. I went in behind the wires that currently run in the jamb (you can see it in the pictures below). Then fed up to behind the start button.
Next was the concealed display install for the V1. I know some people have been putting it in the tray to the left, but I wanted to keep that area for the little storage it supplies. Plus there was some wasted space above it. Time for the dremmel again. I cut a hole big enough to lay the display in there at the same angle as the light switches (parallel to the ground). Held it in place with some super glue from behind at first, then some molded plastic. Then mounted the LED for the laser jammer right next to it, and put a switch down below to turn everything on or off. Ran a fused line to behind the radio, grabbing the power and ground from there. Put everything back together and turned out excellent!
Its pretty scary to take a dremmel to a Lotus, but it turned out great. It was so nice to hop back in and take a little spin today, it had been out of commision for a week.

Where did you mount the V1 itself?

nicely done!

I thought laser jammers were useless - a bunch of money spent on nothing? They actually work?
A:
yes

I thought laser jammers were useless - a bunch of money spent on nothing? They actually work? Yes and No. Some don't work at all, and some do work - a bit. They cannot completely jam the laser, but they can reduce the range that the police laser can get a fix. Often it's enough to slow down before the cop gets a reading.
But of course, if the cop notices you doing an all out panic stop, you might still get stopped and checked out. Laser jammers are illegal in most areas - not from the FCC, but because of local/state laws that make it illegal to "interfering with an officer in the performance of his duties" - i.e. jamming his laser and/or radar.

Hmm... I may rethink a jammer then. The best is?

one thing to keep in mind about the jammers is that for them to work properkly, they cannot be in any way obstructed and need to be positioned as far forward as possible. craniums install does a good job of showing how this needs to be done; he had to remove fins in the grill to mount them properly. ideally, they could even be a bit further forward but as long as the the jammer surface has direct line-of-sight to the gun they will work.
The cool thing about the elise is that it is one of the few vehicles that will work exceptionally well for jamming lidar... the reason for this is that for the laser gun to properly get a reading of speed, it needs to have a target surface that is flat. on the elise there really is no flat surface at all, just continuous curvature of the body panels which is very like the way the second generation stealth technology is employed on the B-2 bomber. The officers are taught to aim at the front plate first and if no reading can be gotten, then to aim at the next available flat surface (the manuals generally say to try the side mirror next.) if you do not mount the front plate and use laser jammers, it would be VERY difficult to obtain any type of lidar reading on this car.

Lidatek I got the M-20 jammer, I read some reviews and talked to my fiance about possibly getting one and she got it for me for xmas. Haven't had a chance to try it yet, but there is always laser between Baltimore and Delaware and I am driving back to ny tomorrow.
I mounted the V1 on the back window. Seems to be working fine, I pick up the standard false readings around my house at the same spot I did when it was on the windshield.

I thought laser jammers were useless - a bunch of money spent on nothing? They actually work? Well, I think the jammer did its job. I was on my way to the DMV on a 5 lane road, speed limit 35, when I heard a lot of beeping from the jammer and the V1. I look down, 45 and slowing. I look up and there is a cop standing at the top of the hill, off of his mcycle pointing the gun. I slowed to just under 40 and turned off the jammer. 2 seconds later he puts the gun down.
I was the only car on the road, and he held that gun out until I turned it off so I guess it worked.
That is the exact reason I have this equipment. 2 lanes in each direction with a dedicated turn lane and the speed limit is 35. Cops go there instead of the 45 mph zone where there are accidents all the time. They should give tickets at dangerous places, not tricky places. Ok, rant off.

Can't generate enough revenue that way...
[rant]That is the problem I have with the system. Tickets should be for safety not revenue. Pull the trucks over that follow right on the bumpers of people in front of them.[/rant] Of course I think most people feel that way.

I have the ZR3 Lidar shifters. They work great. Saved me on the way to LOG 25 (just outside of Cleveland) and again 2 times on the way back. Same place...northern Ohio.

As you may know, Tony, Ohio finances their state highwayt patrol with ticket revenues. Organized multi-vehicle speed traps are common and some municipalities have police forces completely out of proportion to their populations solely to generate general revenues from speeding tickets. Unbiased data on accident causation shows that excessive speed per se is a very minor factor. Impaired driving is the greatest factor in accidents and exceeds all other causations combined. This includes impaired mental ability (i.e. dementia) as well as substance abuse. Don't hold your breath waiting for anything to be done about it with the likes of the brewing industry and AARP lobbying their butts off.

The AL6 or AntiLaser 6 is not on the market yet but the prototype did very well in initial testing.

GREAT STUFF
I have a Escort shifter...and now I wish I had bought the one that performed better....
I am looking at the Veil product.. the measurements were for that were all over 1000 feet..so I dont know if they are applicable. I dont know if the product really works in the real world..
