Replacement Seats ?

Interior Exterior

Q:
I have tried to read all the posts regarding replacement seats, Reverie, Sparko EVO, but I still don't have answers to some questions.
1. I find the original seats OK, but I get a rub point on my left hip, and the seats are not as supportive as they could be when on the track.
2. At over 6 ft tall, some of the racing seats would seem to be impossible to gt in and out of with the top on the car. I do use the Elise for fun trips when we can.
What I want. A (almost) bolt-in comfortable seat that will capture the harnesses properly. It must be comfortable for track and trips. I must be able to install two seats, driver and passenger seats. I have to be capable of getting in and out of the car being not any worse than it is now.
Is there anything out there that someone has installed? Do you like it?
Chet

Check out the new Exige seats...harness holes, more upper body support up high in the wings, more comfortable padding. Might still be a hip issue for ya, I dunno.

Here's the solution that worked well for me.

Is it possible to bolt the Reverie seats to the floor without the mounting bracket? If so how much headroom would you gain?
A:
When you find them (for significantly less than $2k) please let me know.

Mounting to the 'floor' is impossible in the Elise as the floor sheet is not structural and too thin to support a seat, let alone keep a seat in place during a crash.
You allways need to bolt the seat to the chassis beams that run at the front and the rear of the seat.
Extra height will mostly come from less padding or different seat shape as the bottom of the stock seats already sinks down blow the level of the runners. There's only a few mm space between the bottom of the seat and the alu floor of the car in the stock configuration, so it can't go much lower at all.

Any reason to believe the exige seats won't fit the elise?
A:
Exige seats will fit fine. It's exactly the same car

The ReVerie seat does sit lower a bit, but not much. Like Arno said, the bottom of the seat is already almost against the floor. What the ReVerie seat does give you is that you can use it without padding, and its seatback reclines more than the stock seat.
The top of my head is about one inch lower sitting in it.

Does the Exige seat only come in that Yellow? That is the only color i have seen the seat in.
I would love to see the seat in a different color.. I Love that seat and I will be getting these seats IF they come in a different color when I get my Elise.
Thanks
Ryan

This is exactly what I plan on doing as soon as they are available. The only alteration necessary is to do away with the 'EXIGE' on the seatback. I doubt the seats will come cheap, though.

Lotus in the UK charged about 1100 pounds per seat for these. So around $2000 or so..
Bye, Arno.

Thanks for the info, Arno. Not cheap, but what is your opinion of these seats as compared to the Elise seats? Thanks.

Could someone post a photo of the seats showing the "Exige" logo?
Thanks,
Joe

Sat in one once and I couldn't really tell a difference. Top is a little wider because of the harness holes there, but the rest of the seat shell at the bottom is pretty much the same as the other seats.
I'm pretty average build height, weigth and width-wise, so the standard Speedster/Toyota-Elise seats are way too wide and I slide around in them a lot, esp on leather (hate the stuff.. give me fabric or alcantara anyday).
Now in my car I have the seats from www.eliseparts.com, which fit me much better. Snug fit, no more sliding around and full 6-point harness.. But these can not be used with the normal seatbelts at all, so are not really an option for most people.
Bye, Arno.

BTW I had a...heavier.. guy, about 5' 10" sit in my car the other day. He said there were three things he didn't like about the car..one..the instruments were totally obscured by the steering wheel...and two, the seat sides on the bottom were uncomfortable...and three, the steering column was fouling his legs.
I think that he was basically sitting above the seat - his larger form was preventing him from fitting down into the seat all the way. He was levitating on his fat *** so to speak! This lead to the secondary problem of not being able to see the instruments since the person's torso was raised up higher than ideal. And the leg fouling on the steering column.
I think you need to have a moderate to thin waistline in order to sit all the way down into the seat. If you fit down where you need to be, the other issues evaporate. Broomstick test issues too...

that is probably true. I am 5'10" and my visual alignment to the instruments is perfect. of course I am only 145lbs, so I fit in the seat very well.

I am 6'0" with a 29" inseam and 199lbs (that sounds better than 200)
The instruments are visible but if I was about 1/4" taller in the torso I could see where it would be an issue.
I fit in the seat just fine
