Rod puts hole in top

Interior Exterior

Q:
I put my top on for the first time in months and when I was unrolling it on the car I noticed that the end of one of the stiffening rods had actually started to wear a hole in the top while they were rolled up inside the top. It isn't really a hole yet, but it has caused the material to fray and there are some threads sticking up like they are cut. It is right at the front on the outside and you can even see evidence of wear where the rod was rubbing. All this happened while the top was properly rolled up and stored in the bag and placed in the boot. I only have 2500 miles on the car and only use it for pleasure driving, so the top didn't do a lot of tumbling around in the boot, just normal driving vibration seems to have caused this.
I guess my point is be careful how you store your top. I thought the proper way was to roll the rods inside the top and put it in the bag, but from now on, I am going to store the rods seperatly.
I guess I will just have to wait to see if the abrasion on the top gets any worse and if it will start to leak because of it. I sure hope I don't need to get another top for something this minor.
Needless to say I am bummed.

Thank you for the warning. That's what i've been doing.
A:
lightly sand the rods and spray them with some black spray paint
the glass fibre seem to get sharp and hurt the top. i did this the first month I got the car no problem afterwards.
good luck
