Q:
So you can drive while handcuffed!
A:
Are you speaking from personal experience?
A:
Small steering wheel AND close pedals!!!!
It's elementary: one must conclude that Brits have small hands and feet! (And you know what that means!)
A:
Because Elise drivers have small hands.
A:
Why is the Elise steering wheel so small?
Because it can be.
Why would you need it to be big?

I love the steering wheel. I've replaced all steering wheels in my old cars with momo. With this one, I don't have to put the original one back comes inspection time,
A:
It's better to have a wheel. The old way I'd build my carts as a kid was to use a rope to control the steering. But I'm sure Lotus knew most people would want a wheel in this little toy so they didn't use a rope.
As for the size .... i.e., a big wheel .... well, I had one of those too. But my favorite was 'The Green Machine'.
-bored as hell at work doma
edit: what the heck is the correct spelling of 'bored'? *grumble*

It was designed by Carni's. They have small hands. And they scare me.
A:
I assume that racier wheels are smaller because they offer better leverage, scale properly with quicker steering ratios, and are better set up for any hand-over-hand shuffling required.
A:
How the hell would you get in and out of this car with a bigger steering wheel?
A:
Seems like it's already bigger than the previous Euro wheel by a half inch or so. How much bigger do you want it? Geez.
Seriously though, I wouldn't mind if it was slightly thicker like the Euro wheel with that kind of cross section. Very small quibble.

That is what I tell my wife!
A:
oh sh*t! That's a nasty pic. LOL!
A:
You know what they say about small hands.... small gloves.
Oh, and the thing about sheep.
A:
This is my guess for the small steering wheel...the Elise is made to be a track car, so a small steering wheel allows the driver to go from lock-to-lock faster than in cars with larger steering wheels. It's all for making turning more sport-orientated and quicker. Even wondered why big-rigs have such large steering wheels? It's because they are usually found on the long straights found on American highways. Having a large steering wheel makes it easier to keep a vehicle in a straight line.
