Got the Motorsport Elise Sparco seat!

Interior Exterior

Q:
I went into BMC today for another new(3 so far)Stage II ehaust system. I have been breaking the brace weld just behind the tips.
The svc tech told me that they had received their Lotus Motorsport SCCA T1 Elise track car and that the stock seat was a bit narrow for them so they had replaced it with a different one. I then came up with the idea of them selling the OEM Sparco race seat(black/yellow w- silver SPARCO lettering)to me and they liked the idea so I bought it. I just ordered the side mount kit w-hardware from Sparco. He is now trying to source the removable Sparco steering wheel for me...

the sparco seats can be very comfortable. I loved my evo's i had in my last car.
sooo, would this be a good time to plug the fact that I have 2 sparco evo seats for sale now?

I can't imagine Evos fitting in the Elise. Which Sparco seat is the OEM seat? Is it a special Lotus-specific seat or is it based on one of the standard seats?
A:
perry, your car is orange so I suggest you let me buy them for my SY car...
ha!

I believe it is the smallest car seat that Sparco makes but it has no LOTUS specific embroidery(DOH!) or apparent p/n. I plan to dye the removable pad covers nogaro blue or black. Wanted to have them done in nogaro alcantara (@Audi yardage) but I would loose the SPARCO embroidery...
I probably paid more for the seat than if I had just called a Sparco dealer but it seemed like a bargain at a Lotus dealer for only 475.00...
Kyoshi, can you call me about embroidery when you have a chance.

Lotus wanted the dealer to "repair" the cracked weld and send me on my way but luckily welding stainless is not in BMC's usual rep. And, I was waiting for the car so Lotus approved replacing it with a new one for a second time.
Does anyone know if this is a big problem with Stage II's or an isolated problem. They said it was the only one that they had heard of.
I believe that when Hunting Ridge Motors installed the original upgrade they did not cut a large enough hole in the undertray. When my exhaust would heat up the tips would sort of uncoil and lift up into contact with the edge of the cutout on the undertray causing a stressful condition for the weld. I have since cut the hole larger but not until this last Stage II system had started to show signs(a rattling or resonance vibration sound on decelleration) of weld breakage.

It is a very big problem and if it does not get welded you will more than likely be in for a another one soon
Don welds all of them now

Is this your new seat? this is a Sprint...
A:
Similar, but no.
Kirt Lightman with Hyper-Sport(Thanks Kyoshi!)new#(678)714-5346 says that the seat started life as a "Sparco Rev" but that they had done some signifigant mods before it would work in the car. The Rev has a removable back pad as well as a removable thigh bolster with SPARCO embroidery.
Hyper-Sport apparently are the guys that set up the SCCA T1 Elises for willing recipients.
Hyper sport has all of the goodies available for the car.

Aren't all seats other than the bare CF variants heavier than the stock seats? I find it difficult for any seat to be lighter than the stock 15 lbs weight...

I third that...

does it look like this?
A:
Zero, did you have your car at Buttonwillow about a month or so ago with GGLC? If so, where did you get the cage installed... it was very nicely done.

Yeah, please tell Cade where you got the cage... I think he needs it more than most of us here ... especially at Willow Springs (turn 9). wallbang:

Seems like the fiberglass are all 15 lbs and above. The CF ones can be lighter though, even the fully covered ones. Most seem about 40% lighter than their fiberglass counterparts. The Noble M400 uses a 9-10lb CF version of the Sparco Roadster, which weighs 16 lbs in Fiberglass.

Unfortunately that isn't my car. That was a pic from the SCCA T1 Elise that HRM is selling. Perry mentioned the donor car was a T1 prepared car so I wondered if it was the same seat from the photo.
