Q:
Yes, that IS the seat...
One thing that is acceptable in my book is a slightly heavier, much more supportive seat(don't know the differences in weights). If you have ever done lapping with and without a race seat you will know what I'm talking about. It is a completley different driving experience to not have to worry about any other thing than what your hands and feet are doing..with your body poured into the seat.

I was just busting your chops I know racing shells are super comfy. I wonder how they mount into the Elise...
A:
Hyper-Sport supplies a modified Sparco seat mount that bolts the seat directly to the floor like the RH stock seat. The two hip belts bolt through the floor at the back of the tub where the aluminum is thicker.
A:
O....ingress and egress must be a ball buster
A:
The Rev seat is really small, especially in the length of the back.
A:
I think it will drop me down a bit for the "broomstick rule" since it will bolt to the floor without a slide mechanism.. I will weigh both seats with mounting hardware and post as soon as I get the work done. Might be a while though..
CO HRM special
A:
Actually.. You may end up sitting *higher* than in the stock seats unless you also tilt it back a little more.
The stock seat bottom actually goes underneath the level of the sliding rails.
I assume you're getting Elise-specific seat mounting brackets? (eg. the ones used for the Lotus/Corbeau motorsport seat?)
Generic ones are pretty much useless in this car as the seat mounting points are much futher forward and backward (in/on the chassis cross-beams) than regular cars.
Don't even think of bolting the seat to the ali sheet floor itself. It won't hold you..
Bye, Arno.

As a reminder, Shinoo's "tall person's seat" will put you lower, further back, with real lateral support, is wider, and lighter than stock (it's aluminum). I love mine!
A:
I'm only 5'10" so I'm OK either way. The SCCA T1 car sat me noticeably lower than the stock seat but that was a different seat as well.
A:
Yeah, please tell Cade where you got the cage... I think he needs it more than most of us here ... especially at Willow Springs (turn 9). wallbang:
Neil
I thought we weren't bringing that up again Neil? after all hes not the only one who goes off track at HPDEs is he?
Steve
A:
Steve's got my back!

Yes, I've sat in one of the Hyper-Sport cars and it's surprising how much lower the driver sits in it. However, the passenger sits higher than in a stock Elise because they tilt the seat slightly forward. I was told that this was because they were using only a four-point harness for the passenger seat.
In some respects it's easier to get in and out of that car because you can use the roll cage to pull yourself up out of the seat while the steering wheel is removed.

And you must have a very narrow butt! I sat in one and it was very tight for me. My guess is 14" width.

Yes, I think most people would find the 14" seat too narrow. They had one fitted in an Elise at BMC of SF and they had to replace it with a 16" seat.
A:
Perry,
Do you have pics of the part of the seat that was modified? I'm wondering if I can do the mods myself.
Thanks!
Adam
A:
I had these pics from my visit to hyper-sport a few months back. The seats actually touch each other at the top bolsters. Getting in and out was a little harder than with the stock seat but there was definately more support.
A:
I think the mods are done to the sides in the front to clear the door sill and the gear shifter tunnel. Did you happen to get any pics down there?
I've contacted a Lotus dealer here in Japan and they were not able to order the modified seat. I talked to the dealer that Perry got his seat form and was given the part number. The seats are available unmodified here so if I could do the mods myself, I would be able to save on shipping.
A:
Umm.. Call me stupid, but..
Why don't you just order the original Lotus Corbeau Motorsport seat?
That bolts right in on it's own official mounting frame.
Can't fit 2 side by side, but seems like that's the case with these Sparco's too.
If you want 2 motorsport style seats side by side then you have to use the 'well known suspect' like Reverie, Lotus (Exige sport seats), Eliseparts.
Another option is the Corbeau 'LE' seat, which is specifically made for the Elise.
Also.. In Japan the guys at http://www.kawahara-motorsport.com/ already do lots of stuff with seats/wheels/exhausts/carbon/etc. etc...
Bye, Arno.

Looks like they have 2 seats. SPG3 Recaro ($1300) and a Lotus Sport seat ($1400). There is also a "Fitting Kit" (don't know what that is but its $180) and also the sliding rails for the driver's side (another $600).
I'm a cheap bastard. I can get a Sparco Rev for about $400. I don't know how much the rails are from Hyper-Sport but I would be suprised if they were more than $300 or $400.
I'm still weighing my options. I guess teh decider will be the cost of the rails for the Sparco. This is my other favorite seat but it's $1200.

can someone translate the kawahara page
