Q:
If you have, can you post some photos? Are there any issues that must be dealt with, ie seat removal, subsurface refinishing, adhesives, etc?
A:
Mine seems to want to remove itself
A:
Mine's falling out, too. it looks like there's adhesive to get off. Residue. Other than that, no issues. But I have to leave my carpets in for SCCA classing purposes...so in they stay. Kinda.

Really? What about the cars that didn't come with the side carpets?
A:
To be honest the only part of the touring pack that I want to keep is the cargo net. Soft top insulation fallen out twice, I long for the manual windows, wouldn't mind more of the chassis exposed and more noise would be nice. Oh the leather seats I like too I suppose.

I love my bare aluminum chassis. I love my sport pack with no touring pack. I love my window cranks! Actually though, I think the touring pack motor/switch combo is a bit lighter than the manual crank setup (which has a large half-moon gear in the door) if you want to get picky...
And leather is for whimps!!

It's been a while since I checked, but I believe the aluminum trim piece at the top of the side carpets is held in place with pop rivets. You can remove those rivets by drilling them out, but then a piece of the rivet will fall inside the side frame rail and forever bother you with its minor rattling/buzzing...

But the electric motor probably weighs more than the crank gear...
Actually, nobody knows which weigh more, the manual or the electrical windows. Which ever it is, I'll bet they are very close.
I like my cranks - my wife says I'm cranky...

I think my little pieces of side carpetting are going to get tossed as well, like a bad kidney- the car seems to want to reject them, or at least the pass side one. Driver side stays on fine. Jtanner stopped by in his Red, non touring pack elise and frankly I think it looks better without it. The more "raw" look of more exposed aluminum is more fitting. Just wondering if it's going to look funny with the little lip exposed that is supposed to retain it, and I don't feel like drilling. My carpet is only velcrowed at the bottom, none at the top. I hope the glue will come off fine without staining the aluminum where it resided when I go through with tossing part of my extra $1,000 option, or whatever it cost.

Basic rule is that the car must compete as it could have been ordered from the factory, not including modifications for comfort and convenience THAT HAVE NO PERFORMANCE ADVANTAGE (which includes reduced weight).
Keeping that rule in mind... you can run the Elise as a non-Touring car if it is configured as it could have come from the factory. This does not mean you can selectively delete bits of an option package.
However, there is a gray area here. Note the above statement about "comfort and convenience mods as long as they don't reduce weight/provide a performance advantage.
So lets say I decide my Touring Elise is not really a Touring optioned car. It is a non-touring. But I want to modify it for comfort and convenience. I change the seat and door panel upholstery. No performance advantage, in fact the seats are more slippery. Stereo has nothing to do with performance. I add a cargo net. Still okay. I add a little more carpeting. An insulated softop is not a peformance advantage. So theoretically, you could consider a car as Non-Touring, but with some non-performance touring bits added. NOTE, this is not cut and dried and at the very top levels of this sport, you may not want to do this.

What if you technically didn't "remove" the parts, but they "fell off on their own" haha- Is there a grey area for that? It's British, the judges would have to understand.
A:
also has carpeting under the seats.
If you don't have the tour package and if you carry passengers carry coins in their pockets they may end up under the seat. Boy are those noisy.
have fun
