Soft paint

Interior Exterior

Q:
I decided to use some of the extra clear bra provided with my car in the underside of the front wheel well. The area is already seeing some chips and I have this plastic just sitting in the garage. I wiped the area with alcohol to remove the wax. I then cut the strips for application. While applying it took me a couple times to get it lined up correctly. However, on the underside the paint started to come off when I would pull off for reapplication. This seems strange for a clearcoated paint or just in general. Not a huge deal but mildly alarming. Does anyone have an explanation? The other side of the car did not do the same however this side, for some reason, has more paint chips. It's the area on the rear underside of the front wheels.

Cheap paint!!! Poor prep!!!

My paint peeled on the rocker panels when I had starshield installed by a trained (by starshield) installer. Lotus would not honor my warranty claim.

This is one of the problems with Lotus and it has been discussed on numerous posts. The paint is not very consistent from car to car. Some people seem to get a decent paint job and others, myself included, get very bad paint jobs. I encourage you to contact Lotus about this. Maybe if more people complain they will start working to fix it.
A:
Wait a second. The paint failed during the installation of a factory accessory by Lotus personnel and this is your responsibility? Or is that not exactly the case?
Elises will need (at least) rocker panel film replacements from time to time. Yearly on driven cars. Something to keep in mind.

No, I hadn't had the starshield from the factory, as I was a bit pissed about them holding my car an extra month in port/prep and then hitting me with the price increase. So I told them no starshield. I had it installed by a certified starshield installer in my hometown, and when they installed it, it peeled the paint on the rocker panels as they were trying to slide it around.
Lotus said they would not honor the warranty as it was not their guys that installed it. My complaint was that it was the same product as they install, installed by certified installers... so what's the difference? I wasn't asking them to warranty the starshield... just my paint.

Cade...I think you should take some digital pics, post 'em here...and make an appointment to see your area Lotus Rep about the matter. The Reps stop by each dealer at least every month so it won't take too long. This seems rather harsh to me, would not happen on other cars, and the folks were trained. You should get the installer to write a letter to you, include information about their training and what happened. I have heard that Star Shield can be installed after the fact and still be considered as well warranteed as port installed Star Shield. Else it's not Star Shield = their point. Well do you have the embossed Roundels or not? Is the problem visible or is it underneath the sills or something?
A:
Probably just a lack of prep in that area. If under the roll bar is not even painted, I can't see a whole lot of time being invested in prepping inside the wheel wells for proper paint.

Installing the extra clear bra given with the car was a bit different then expected. It was sort of like putting scotch tape on my car.
