Paint Film: Armourglove

Interior Exterior

Q:
I think that Elises should have paint protection film. My Elise came with Armourglove paint film on it. I got my car through HRM in August '04. The film is supposed to be better than Star Shield. I don't know whether they cover more of the car these days, but some areas which Lotus Star Shield protects are not covered by the patterns they used! And damage can / will occur. For example: behind the rear wheels, and the horizontal portion of the rocker / sills. See pics below. If any warranty work is needed on your paint or with a body panel, Lotus will only replace affected paint film if it is Star Shield. My film also yellowed. Armourglove says they'll replace yellowed film, they are nice people. I posted pics showing yellowed film which you can find in a search if you'd like. You can see some of it in these shots.
I'd suggest you use genuine Star Shield, the dealer would not do this for me at the time though. If you don't use Star Shield, make sure you get at least the same coverage areas, and make sure you realize that if warranty (non-accident) paint or body panel work is needed, you'll have to pay for refilming the area on your own.

Did you paint the fins on the scoops?

Yup...could use a touch up...

I'm wondering, does Starshield cover those areas you pointed out? (behind the rear wheels and the horizontal area) If so, does Starshield leave a slght gap at the edge or does it cover the area ENTIRELY, even the edge?

Well there will be some variation since the film is applied by hand, gets stretched and so forth. *Most* of the areas I noted do get covered by Star Shield. I think that out back there is still some uncovered area at the actual edge...and on the sills...some paint near the grills is exposed but not much.
