Smoked Glass Targa or Gull Wing?

Interior Exterior

Q:
Anyone working on a smoked glass targa top for our Elise?? Didn't purchase the hardtop but would love to get a tinted top...or smoked glass Gull Wing (Shinoo??)
Had it with my 1st generation MR2, and T-Bar Smoked glass with my 2nd generation MR2...

bump...

That would be cool but do you think it would clash with the cars body color unless you had a black car.
A:
sounds heavy. I can't image weight crazed elise fans going for a weight increase to be able to see through their removable top.

personally i think the idea of a see-thru top made of glass or polycarbonate is an excellent idea and would be perfect for the winter months. the mercedes sl series has this as an option and its really nice to have; a pull-closed sun shade is built right into the top for when you want to keep the sun out so you can have it either way.

i think a thin heat formed plastic may be lighter than the fiberglass metal and upoulstry (definately spelled wrong sorry ) but I wonder what the DOT would have to say about the top? Do they regulate aftermarket parts like that?

Considering any crash/rollover tests would have to be carried out without the top, I cannot imagine DOT having any issues with whatever top you decided to put on. High speed stability may be an issue, but if the profile for the existing hardtop was followed and the material was thick enough, I do not see a problem.
