Try some adhesive remover...3M makes a good one. It's called 3M Adhesive Remover. Bug and tar remover is also worth a try. It's a slow process, you do it in a few steps if it is a gummy glue.

The 3M stuff (in the old days... Bestine) is the best thing ever.

A lot of times soaking a cloth in rubbing alcohol and resting on the goo for a bit will break it down without hurting the paint. Goof-off is more agressive, I'd be nervous to use it on paint. 3m wax and grease or adhesiver remover as mentioned are good. Sign supply or sometimes autobody shops carry a product called Rapid Remover that is very good and won't hurt paint. The orange citrus based products like Goo-gone work relatively well if you give them some time.

What are you doing about the rails the carpet hook into at the top? My carpet is essentially falling out and I can't decide whether to have the dealer fix it or to rip it all out. Those rails are the biggest problem I have with ripping it out.

week later my detailer use WD-40 to finally get the stuff off. Detailer says you just have to try different things until something works.
Other stuff I have used is Goof-Off. Removes scuff marks on kitchen cabinets, sticky stuff on golf clubs and permanent marker marks from clothing.

Brave man using WD there! It will take off adhesive, no prob. The only real problem is it will also take off paint pretty easily too! I've had personal experience with the wrong end of the rag, WD-40, and paint.

I've been using wd40 for years... From bikes, to cars, to doors locks, to removing price stickers on Xmas presents... Never had a problem with it removing paint?
A:
As I've raved about in other threads, WD40 is my new Elise accessory.. it isn't harming the clearcoat or the starshield, and works magic to get cone and rubber marks off. I'm just using a damp soft cloth with a small spray, but it's wonderful.
The key is to do like laundry and "test in an inconspicuous location". Before whipping out the acetone and MEK, maybe give a test rub with extra firm pressure somewhere like the underskirt of the car or deep inside a wheel well.

Sorry may be I wasn't clear enough. The WD-40 was used to remove the sticky glue after removing the lables on the sunvisor. I don't think the sunvisor was painted (LOL). Like most cleaning liquids you need to test (on a small part of the car that is not very noticable) before applying it with abandon.

Best way I have found to remove parts or stickers with adhesives is by simply using a hair dryer. Heat the item thoroughly until the adhesive undercoat is warm, then slowly peel one corner keeping the blow dryer on the item. In most cases, you don't even need any additional messy solvents.

A:
The simplest I have found is a clay bar. I tried all kinds of chemicals (WD40, bug and tar remover, etc) on glue residues from a sticker once. Nothing worked. The clay bar took it off in a few seconds.

If you're brave, you could use a brand new (sharp!!!!) razor blade with almost any liquid to remove just about anything, even from paint.

Yikes ! You're a braver man than I am, Matt ...

I use an aerosol product called "Motsenbacher's Lift Off". Works like a champ, and won't hurt your stuff.

Try Contact Cement Thinner. I think DAP makes it. It gets off most glues used for labels, etc, just about instantly.
