This is done with one 12" bungee cord which goes around the towing post, and two 9" cords that attach to the undercarriage. It doesnt block much air flow and if you do scrape something, the cords will simply stretch. Other than that, it doesnt move a bit. There is heavy duty stick-on padding on the back of the plate, BTW.

LOL! Dude, you need to get out more! Anyway, it's $65 a pop for this kind of violation in NYC. If you get more than $250 worth, they can (and will!) TOW YOUR CAR! That's Gotham City for you; commissioner Gordon seems to need the money. A friend of mine recently got a ticket for an expired inspection sticker at 20 past midnight on the day it expired.
Anyway, the plate doesn't seem to bother my car any (same running temp as before), and the admirers dont even seem to notice it.

I'm confused. Why do so many of you in states requiring front plates spend so much time and effort coming up with new mounting methods? Do you remove them when parked to improve the cars looks when not being driven? Are you planning to sell the car to a state that doesn't require them, hence decreasing your cars desirability? Are you expecting the law to be repealed soon and don't want to be left with the holes when they are no longer necessary? I don't get it.

Obviously you are from a single-plate state, so you haven't considered the implications of using the mounting bracket supplied by Lotus which A) requires drilling into and attaching nuts BEHIND the clam, B) makes the plate hang down where it can way too easily scrape ground, resulting in, C) the bracket pulling out of the fiberglass! Or, if you try to mount it higher, it blocks a LOT of airflow and prevents you from attaching the tow eye! It basically is a really bad, afterthought solution by Lotus for mounting a front plate.

Having to walk all the way around my car to write my plate number serves as much needes exercise for the typically overweight, lazy IL cop anyway

Well, I havent gotten my plates yet but I've pondered if those of us without sport packages could make some kind of mount attached to the side grill holding the plate up. Something similar to Lancer Evolutions.

It is a bracket that attaches to the front tow hook mounting point and allows you to position the plate vertically where you wish, as well as allow a quick installation and removal for those wanting a temporary plate solution. It also has a built in bullet camera mount.
Next on the drafting board will be a fully hinged plate adapter, that I hope will allow the license plate to freely pivot on a sprung hinge and will lay flat at speed (and also protect the plate somewhat from bottoming out).

I would like to think that he posted something similar to my design. I started mine (got busy) in September.
But the short answer is no. I personally think those look cheezy and have less functionality. For example, with my design:
1. You can still use (or not use) the tow hook.
2. You can mount a camera or other device on it BEHIND THE GRILL.
3. It extends behind the grill and when the secondary bracket is taken off, you can't really see it.
4. It aligns itself vertically. Note how those other designs go to other methods to avoid pivoting on the tow hook bolt, including one design screwing into the clam.
5. It allows various placements of the plate with a 2" vertical adjustment range.
6. You can change the adapter bracket and leave the main mounting bracket. This will allow other options.

I should get the prototyped mounted in a couple weeks or less and then production parts will only take a week or two more. Next, finish up the V1 and fire extinguisher mounts. And then a few other things.

The drawings were just dropped off at the machine shop.
Next, they build the prototype.
Then, we do a test fit.
Then, we get it anodized.
Then, we live with it for a couple of weeks and make sure there's no problems.
Then, we go into production.
Maybe a month from now you can buy one.
Maybe a little quicker...
