Front license plate attachment

Q:
Count me in when they go into production. Gotta register the car/order plates in two weeks - by the time the mount is ready, I should have my plates. Can probably go a few weeks w/o getting a ticket if it's delayed. Great solution!!!
A:
That looks like a great solution Randy. Count me in as well, I'd definitely be interested with the spring loaded version. Robert mentioned that it is going to be around $45, is it going to be sold thru Blackwatch Racing?

I'd buy it just for the camera mount.
What does it look like with no license plate?

A bit rough since it was a prototype, it can be installed and held in with the tow hook as shown, or a supplied metric allen head bolt. Camera can be installed above or below the towhook mount.
Pic without grill
It is not really visible with the grill on, unless you crouch down and peer into the cavity.

Pic with grill on. License plate bracket not installed.

I think so. I just work in a dark cubicle designing stuff.
Spring loaded will be more than $45.00 total though.

Nice '02 plate.

I replaced that one today with this one...

Is the production of the bracket on schedule - about 2 more weeks? Got my first warning - exactly 1 week from when I removed my temp and installed my rear plate.
A:
Gotta warn you guys, you definitely want something spring-loaded if it's going to hang down at all (and if it isnt, you're blocking a lot of air!)
I scraped the plate coming down a ramp onto the street. Luckily my bungee-cord system stretched as intended and the only thing that really happened was the bottom of my plate got a little bent up.
BTW my whole set-up cost me about ten bucks, including shipping for the really short (and a bit hard to find) "underneath" cords.

The dealer included a front plate mount with my car. I'm not sure how it works, since I really don't care. No way I'm putting a front plate on, especially since it's not a requirement in GA (to my knowledge anyway) Is everyone else just not getting the plate mount, or does it require drilling the body or something? Such a shame to have to run one, the lines of the car were definatly never intended for a front plate.

The front plate mount included by Lotus is a totally useless afterthought by them, IMO. Yes, it would involve drilling and you'd have to put the nuts on BEHIND the clam, which is problematic at best. And if you ever do scrape the ground with the plate, it's going to pull right out.
But if your state does not require a front plate, why are you even worrying about it??
A:
Nice license plate mount Randy! I don't think the spring loading is necessary, but folks should run the plate on the highest position if you are worried about it. I think the air will manage to find it's way around the license plate sticking up only an 1" X 8" into the grill area. If you are racing on a track and need that air flow, because you are driving at 10-20 mph in 1st gear, then you should take the plate off (it takes 30 seconds to remove 2 thumb screws). For street use this is great!
A:
Hey, any news on this? I'm moving to Hawaii, and my understanding is that I'll need to have a front plate to pass the inspection and get the Elise registered there.
Cheers

Yes, The parts are in anodize, so Blackwatch should be getting them in stock next week.

I've been running the new license plate mount that should be available through Black Watch Racing (BWR) for at least a month now and it's holding up great. No complaints at all - it does exactly what you want it to do.
As for the spring mount, it's a decent idea in theory, but I don't think it's needed. I hit (destroyed) two cones head on and the plate bent a little bit, but because of the way it's mounted it didn't bother the body at all. I just bent the plate back. There was no damage to the mount.
This is such an easy install and it gets us buy our state requirements. It's a "no brainer" compared to drilling holes in the body or rapping bungee coords around the body.
I'll post pics when I clean off the front end this week. I put 500 miles on the car and an autocross. It's very dirty.

I shipped out about 10 kits today, so those who ordered should have them in the next couple of days!
