Interior Exterior
Q:
We are developing a Cup holder for the Elise, because driving this thing around drives me nuts without a cup holder for my Starbucks.
Were going to CNC this whole piece out of billet aluminum.
We were thining of moving the OBD2 Port under the center of the dash, and making a bracket to bolt to those two holes. Those two holes are very strong since they are rivet threaded inserts into the aluminum lower change / junk holder assembly. I was thinking to put it just in front of the shifter so it doesnt get in the way of the passenger and or the driver while driving ( i have kept in mind to offset it from center for those HEEL TOE KINDA GUYS ).
It would be about 1 1/2" away from them door lock button. I had to make sure it would be easy for people to grab their drinks and still be able to put a small tall bottle of water and still see and adjust the radio.
I wanted to get some feedback from people for:
1. Placement
2. Prefered Cup Size ( Vente , Tall Vente , Grande )
3. Color of cup holder. ( Were goign to CNC a Billet Cup holder )
4. Adjustable height and legth it comes out or solid mounted?
5. Price would pay for something like this.
A:
My personal interest would be something that holds 20oz. pop bottles.
And I'll state the obvious-
1. Convenient reach of the driver.
2. Does not interfere with a passenger.
3. Beverage remains in place during hard cornering and rough roads.
4. Does not interfere with shift lever or driver's legs.
5. Matches existing interior.
6. Easy to clean.

I bought a plastic cupholder with a flexible window insert at Pep Boys for about $3. It fits all the above criteria except #5. When I'n not using it I stow it down behind the seat-inflation bulb.

I am thinking of kluging something together to go on the door sill. Maybe a flat piece of metal or plastic with an angle in it that folds over the edge of the sill adjacent to the door. Glued on to the metal would be the cup holder part of one of the three dollar window items metioned above. When the door is closed it will hold it in place just at arms length on the left side of the driver away from everything else. When not in use I would stow it in the mesh behind the seats... it would work for me because I would only use it on hour long commutes - the coffee is all gone by the time I get where I am going so it won't interfere with getting out of the car...
A:
well im sure with billet aluminum i cannot beat a $3 pepboys cup holder.
My design will incorporate all of your requests.
What do you guys think of a reasonable price?

I'm voting for a Budweiser quart size Actually, I'll second the 20oz plastic pop bottle.

Right now I'm using the fischer cup holders http://www.ultimatecupholders.com/fischercupholder.html.
2 strips of Velcro on the bottom. 3 possible placements on the car - 2 strips to the right of the shifter and in front of the passenger seat for when I'm driving alone and 2 strips on each sill in front of the cubby holes so driver and passenger can each have one. When not using the 2nd holder, I store it behind the seats with 1/2 a strip of velcro. The curved bottom of the holder fits perfectly on the curved end of the ledge. Doesn't move around even with spirited driving. They fold down when not in use and are pretty much out of the way.
How much would I pay not to have strips of velcro all over the place? Depending on how well designed the cup holders are probably up to $50, but I might pay more if it really works.
- It should hold up to a regular fountain drink (20 oz), but a regular soda can should not rattle around either - maybe a spring loaded gizmo (see the fischer cup holder).
- Can you do 2 drink slots? Side to side or front to back. Additional weight can be supported by a bar (contoured end & rubber tipped) to the divider between the driver and passenger (not sure what it's called).
- Match the brushed aluminum finish.

Do you have any pics?
Do you have a web site?
Where are you located?

My european friends would be amused by the notion that a 20oz. drink is "regular" size. They already find it odd that we don't even get out of our cars to eat our "super size" meals.
A:
The fischer widget look pretty good, but I was looking for one that includes a cute guy that brings the drink to my lips...
A:
im going to try and keep the costs down.
Our website is being done now and will be up soon.
We are offering some cool stuff.
We are going to offer an intake system.
were goign to do a dyno day in the next few weeks here.
were located in south san francisco.

Welcome to the Elise board Leo. I must say I am a little surprised to see you here! The prototype header you made looks very nice.Keep in touch mate.

I've always envisioned something that has a bean bag on the bottom of it and would hold a large drink from McDonalds. You just set it on the sill and it would be good for most driving.
A:
Embed a strong magnet under the plastic sill cover. Use a steel cup holder.
A:
My datalogger is blu-taked to the floor in front of the passenger seat. It stabilizes a cup just right. A cup remains fixed, trapped between the logger and the front edge of the seat.

I guess you don't drive an Elise the way I do!
A:
I'd like to have a cup holder that attaches to my harness bar. It's easy to reach around with my left hand to a spot between the seats around the height of my harness bar.
Starbucks venti cold drink size, please.

Not while I'm drinking a biggie-Coke from CrackRonalds(tm) anyway.

Here's another cup holder option for the serious drinkers out there.
