Are the guages easy to see while driving fast at the track? I can't tell if you right arm would block them too much. Other than that, looks cool. You should sell a guage holder to replace the radio too; that is where I have mine and it is very visible and better use of the space than a radio

I think that ones knees would alos be in the way, how about sticking them in the center air vents?

PS: You should include it with a power outlet plug at the bottom in the proper US spec. Now that would really make this unit handy and even more desirable.

Saab sells a DIN (stereo) sized 3 gauge mounting braket that holds standard 52 mm gauges. It's $14.95. The PN used to be Saab 02-73-235 - don't know if it is any more. It's black plastic with a matte, textured finish. I used to have one for my RX7. I've seen others that hold three gauges and angle them toward you a bit, but they usually more pricey.
Of course, if you want to keep your stereo, this center console method is the way to go. Looks kinda nice too, imho. I'd imagine that if you got decent gauges with warning lights, the fact that they are so far out of your line of sight may not be that important - as long as you can see the light if/when it turns on.

Thank you for your replys and thoughts. I am 5'-6" and I can see both gauges very clear while I am driving. Also I don't see any problem with a knee getting in the way. You will hit the gear shift console before you hit this unit. I have to test it with someone who is very tall and I will post a result from it. I am sorry to say that we won't be making a unit that fits inside the radio hole or air vents. From the sales point of view we have to market a product that will sell in some numbers This set up is already popular in Japan with the people whom race the Elise and the Exige and it made most sense to me because you don't need to take anything out of the car.

I like the concept, but that design has very sharp, crisp lines that I don't think go as well inside the Elise cockpit. How about increasing the bend radius to a quarter inch or so? That'd at least give it a more rounded look, and shouldn't add to the cost. It'd help it blend in more with the nicely rounded aluminum tray directly above it.

Yes, I thought about the same thing. I will look into it. We are working on the texture/finish to match as well.

Let me know if you have any trouble with that; I recently dealt with vendor selection for a class A, anodized, brushed aluminum part with quarter inch bend radii (non Elise-related) so could point you in the right direction if you need sources.

Many of the BMW and VW mail-order stores sell a DIN-mount made by VDO or Zender, which may be the same as the Saab part. Functional, but not nearly as cool as the aluminum stack. Don't even think about adding a cupholder!

How about a horizontal holder that mounts under the center HVAC controls - it doesn't need to extend down to the spine. I believe there are already holes/bolts/screws under there to hold the HVAC controls. Then it wouldn't be in the way of the knees.

ForceFed (Brett) has a two-gauge cluster mounted horizontally on their turbo Elise. He has a boost gauge and, I think the other is either oil temp or oil pressure (i was focused on the boost gauge at the time ). I don't know if he had that custom made or if it is a standard part from some supplier.
