Door Sills Revisited

Interior Exterior

Q:
Apologies if this is a repeat post...
I'm anxiously waiting on BWR to release the door sill protectors...the scratches are mounting. I also noticed that I'm developing scratches on the painted sills as well. This is probably due to that being one of my handholds when getting out - wedding ring and watch don't help any.
I ordered some bulk 3M material from http://www.rockblocker.net/store/34583.htm I opted for the 6" width, but you can use the 4". Their prices are very reasonable, and I received in 3 days.
I aligned the film on the sill, and temporarily held in place with tape. Along the outer edge of the sill, I used a marker and put a dot about every 6". Note the sill is curved, with varying width. I then connected the dots with a straightedge, and cut with scissors. Then the corners were rounded just a bit to deter peeling.
The sills were cleaned with a 50/50 alcohol & water mix. I then used a spray bottle with water and a dab of dishwashing liquid to coat the sill and film. Film was put in place with a squeegee (included from Rockblocker). Looks great. This is an easy and cheap way to protect the paint.
Also, with some excess material, I cut a 'donut hole' out with a compass, and put around my trunk key hole (last picture).

The painted sills on my car are covered with Star Shield material that comes up from the rocker panels.
It is continuous piece that covers the bottom of the car under the door and continues up to protect the sill under the door itself.
Is this maybe a later version of the Star Shield system? My chassis # is 2829, build date of February 2005.

No, my very early car has the same coverage.

This would be for those who have the 3M kit, I guess, like me. My kit from Shinoo didn't include film for the sills. Nice to know that the StarShield does.

Nice work, Dave, and a good solution for those who do not have SS.
