Fire Extinguisher Install

Interior Exterior

Q:
Just installed this 1lb dry extinguisher (total weight just over 2.5lbs). Picked it up from eBay for about $34 including shipping. It's rated BC, and is enclosed in a nice black-chrome cylinder. I removed the factory labels and replaced with a 4" Lotus logo. The cylinder is very small, and remains well out of the passenger's footwell. The discharge handle and safety ring tucked away nicely under the seat. I used some heavy-duty Velcro to fasten to the floor...couldn't bring myself to drill into the floorboard. Hasn't dislodged yet, even after some hard braking. It surely has it's limits though.
All in all, a reasonable & affordable solution for some additional safety equipment for off-trackers.

Looks great, but I would want something more than velcro holding it in place. When it eventually does come free under force, that's probably the worst time to find out "hey, that must be the limit of velcro adhesion!" Also, if it's adhesive velcro, the adhesive often melts over time in hot weather, becoming weak.
I'd rather have a few screws or bolts through the floor pan than some can-shaped dents in the dash.
Maybe a bracket that uses the existing seat mounting?

Agree - it's a temporary solution. I have a buddy who works in a machine shop who's looking into fabricating a bracket/holder. Cheers.

I like the floor mats !

We have a bracket that bolts to the passenger seat rails. Email me for details (lillie@sector111.com). It will be available for purchase shortly. The fire extinguiser + mount is already available online.

Who made your "built exclusively" label? Reminds me of one my grandfather who recently passed had in all of his bmw's...I wouldnt mind adding one, nice touch.
So you're Vin 1725?

I will chime in because I am a safety nut. Any object loose in the car becomes a lethal projectile in an accident. It is the secondary impact to the human occupants that often kills or causes injury.
You can form a set of brackets that attach the the bottom of the seat, using the existing brackets and bolts. I used three arms to triangulate the mount and prevent the extinguisher from moving sideways.
The picture below shows the view under the seat before the seat is reinstalled. Instructions are here:

Very nice/clean design, Shinoo...I like it much better than the other straps & bolts idea. I'm placing my order now...
A:
Michael, you may have been first, but Shinoo's design is prettier.

Is there any danger of the fire extinguisher overheating since it could be in direct sunlight this way? I checked one I have and it recommends a maximum temperature of 120 degrees, seems it could exceed this. Any recommendations?

Here is an update on my install. Just mounted the Sector 111 bracket. VERY NICE! I was hoping I'd only have to loosen the front passenger seat bracket bolts, but they had to be removed. The left isn't a real big deal, but the right is a pain. What's worse is putting the bolt back in (6mm hex). After fighting without any luck, I tried a mini ratchet head tool set my company sells, and I had it back in about 20 seconds. Used the T40 bit and it fit perfectly. Here's a shameless plug (buy lots of goodies while you're there)

Used the T40 bit and it fit perfectly. The bolt is a metric Allen head - a T40 bit is a Torx bit. The two are not compatible - not even close. Why didn't you use a metric Allen head bit???
A:
The T40 fits *perfectly* in the 6mm...give it a try. Didn't have a small enough hex (height) handy. Following me around Timmy?
