I took a basic window-mounted hanging cup holder with a flexible plastic insert (for the space between the window and the door), folded the insert and wedged it between the carpet and the plastic covering for the driver's seat belt retractor. The result is that the cup holder is held by the plastic and the carpet and it hangs in the space between the side rail, the bulkhead and the left rear corner of the driver's seat. Perfect solution.
Low cost, low weight, no drilling, no mess, easily removable, but stable.

I've always just wedged the drink back in the corner on the outboard side of the driver's seat. Mountain Dew cans and medium McDonald's cups (with tops) fit perfectly. Note that this does work with Big Gulps.

I would like a solution that sits on the aluminum sill right in front of the passenger seat. It is easy to reach provided there isn't a passengers leg in the way. Depending on the passenger, it could still be a good thing! In any event, I'm hoping one of you guys with too much time on your hands designs a workable solution.

Or one with a big tab that slides into the little cubbyhole space next to the engine start button. It could work on both sides of the car.
And, of course you would have to move it to get in and out, but that is the price you pay for cupholders.

I have no time. Maybe later this year. First I want a small electronically dimming mirror and a sequential shifter.
