Bye, Bye Brake Dust!

Interior Exterior

Q:
I tried a brake dust repellent made by Michelin that works extremely well. My wheels were never cleaner after I applied it and they still look great two weeks later. Thanks to Vantage who suggested the product. I found it at Autozone as he suggested. The first store I tried didn't have it but the second one did. This is an amazing product and I highly recommend it.
A:
How does it go on?
A:
It's a spray that has a foaming action to it. You spray it on and wipe it off.
A:
This patent-pending technology forms a thin, repellent film on wheels and other surfaces that inhibits the deposition (and attachment) of brake dust, road grime and other soils to vehicle surfaces.
Michelin Brake Dust Repellent is delivered to a clean wheel, allowed to wet the surface and wiped dry to a thin, streak-free film. When sprayed, a light foam will develop on the wheel and the foam will begin to break with an effervescent character. When the foam breaks, the repellent layer is forming to protect your wheels and keep them looking cleaner, longer.
Application of Michelin Brake Dust repellent will also make subsequent cleaning of wheels easier as the brake dust and road grime does not get a chance to attach to your valuable wheels.

Why not apply it to the entire car (and maybe to my underwear too?) if it "inhibits the deposition (and attachment) of brake dust, road grime and other soils"? It looks too good to be true. But I'll try it - love new stuff!!
A:
Sounds kinda like Rejex.
A:
I had never tried this stuff, but wondered if it actually worked. These things tend to be gimmicky but sounds like it helps a little at least. Thanks for trying it out. Can't seem to find it locally.
Rejex doesn't seem a whole lot better than any other sealant, though I haven't tested it thoroughly.

Dear All:
There was a post earlier somewhere that suggested putting Klasse AIO on the wheel rims. I've done so, and noticed a remarkable difference as the weeks go by. Does anyone know if this Michelin stuff actually works better than Klasse for comparison?
Also, (Vantage if you're reading), any idea how often to reapply Klasse on the rims? Or is six months still safe?

Remember....if you use Rejex, or Zaino, or Michelin, or Klasse, do NOT use wheel cleaning detergent at wash time. Since this would remove the sealant! With any of them, water & car wash soap and maybe mild brushing should do the trick. If you don't push the car super hard, put on a low dust pad such as Porterfield R4S. It stops well but has less initial bite than OEM. It cuts dusting by about 90%.
A:
Stan,
Do these low dusting pads wear the rotors at an increased rate?
Hi Dan,
I'm not sure how long AIO lasts on the paint, as I've never used it as a stand alone wax, but I imagine it would not last as long on the wheels.
If you want to use AIO as a protectant, I hear leaving a thin layer behind to dry for about 30 minutes helps its durability. So don't work it in completely. No confirmation of this, but that is something Carlack of Germany suggestions. Carlack is supposidely the maker of Klasse. Haven't been able to confirm that.

Not particularly, no. Otherwise dust would be produced. Mostly you notice much less dust and less initial bite. Still plenty of stopping power at all temps though.
A:
Stan,
Painted my SSRs using your method. Do you use this product on yours, or any reason not to (on the painted surface)?

The various "glops" are compatible with paint, so are the different brake pads.

I take your point, but I can assure you that you will be impressed by this product. However, I would not recommend spraying it in your underwear. But, on the otherhand, let us know how it turns out if you do.
A:
I have been using AIO on the wheels, I think it only helps in regards to removal. Not sure if it keeps dust from sticking like this Michelin product claims to. When I put the AIO on, I actually apply it the same way wax would be applied, and just let it dry so that it is a fairly thick layer that is actually visible up close. Its not real noticable on the silver LSS wheels. I would apply at least once a year but it depends on how often you wash the wheels I suppose.

I have applied the Michelin product to my underware and they have stayed streak free for one week and counting!

For Klasse on wheels I wouldn't go more than 2-3 months without replacing it. Wheels are heavy duty crap collectors and that area will get alot hotter than anywhere else you would normally apply Klasse which will probably break it down faster.
And how often does the Michilen stuff supposed to last or is there no info on the label?

HAHAHA Great way to end a work day. No skids marks... weehoo!

Picked up the Michellin stuff this weekend. Was a bit hard to find, first place was sold out of it, others didn't carry it. Got it at Autozone as well. Seems to of made a decent improvement so far. Of course just to apply it you get the wheels really clean. It's clean, dry, apply this spray, wipe again. So just adding the drying and the extra wipe and dry step gets me a step further ahead towards clean that normal.
Spending quality time with the car wheels, haha.
