Interior Exterior
Q:
I know these cars are not old yet, but how are your cloth interiors holding up? I read something that said lotus was changing to a more durable material in '06. are people really having issues with wear in the first year?
A:
I'm not having any issues. No problems with my cloth interior...

At 5 months and 2900 miles, virtually all with the top off, I have not had any problems. The seats look just like they did when I picked the car up at the dealer.
For '06 the base interior will be all cloth instead of half cloth, half leather, but I wasn't aware of any specific change in the material, though there might well be.

this is where I read it.

cloth seems to be very high quality and wears (of course everones is not that much wear in the grand scheme..) well
i like the cloth, when i saw tims car before i ordered mine, i realized that pics make the cloth look kinda cheap, but in person the cloth is fairly thick and durable despite its deep texture.
A:
that's exactly what I thought. every picture I have seen online makes it look cheap. I finally saw one in person (door was locked though) and it seemed much better than I expected.
A:
I think the way light tends to bounce off the texture makes it look that way. It also seems to clash with the leather, but it really doesn't. Sometimes black carpet looks purple in pictures and carbon fiber bits look like holograms.

Anyone else getting some nasty brush burns from their fabric ?? Or am I ( and my wife ).... the only ones ?? " dat stuff is ruff !! "
A:
What, exactly, are you and your wife doing to get brush burns from the seats?
Never mind, probably too much information.

I love the cloth. It is a good quality, grippy cloth and seems to be holding up very well. It just looks right in the Elise's cabin. Mine looks like new after seven months. I am glad that the '05s were cloth/leather, because the bolsters are obviously going to get more wear.
A:
on an thread hijacking note... i did notice this week that my lumbar "air bag" only stays inflated for about 20 mins, slowly leaks down.
A:
While in France this spring I saw an Elise parked at our hotel. I don't know how old it was but the drivers seat was badly worn on the side bolster where you would rub when you get in. It was cloth.

Our cloth seats have a very tough material lining the outer edges, so that should be avoided. I would assume that the new all-cloth seats for '06 would still have this reenforcement.
