http://www.julianos.com/billet_rear_view_mirrors.html Not as they are... The top mount obviously won't attach to the windshield, and the glue on mount is meant for a more vertical windshield (the Elise slopes too much) - I seem to remember it needs to be around 25 degrees maximum slope or something like that.

As you can probably figure out, I'm been investigating too...

But at least my home made rear view mirror has been working for now...
A:
now that is funny.

yeah i'm assuming a change to the mounting bracket, Julianos may be interested in modding it, people always refer to my exige as a hot rod as it is

i meant work in the general sense of size, weight.

Here are a few pictures of it installed. The third one is from the driver's eye position, and shows that you can still see the edge of both seats, the roof, and the rear spoiler in the significantly smaller mirror. The mirror's also tinted slightly dark, so even though I thought I'd really want a night position I don't miss not having it.
John It looks like a big micro mirror(I know it's an oxymoron)

You mention that the glue holding your rear view mirror was not sticky anymore. I just wanted to note that I've found a couple of items in the car where the glue has become non-sticky. Perhaps Lotus might read this and use better glue in the future...
- The oil lines, to the coolers, are held in the front clam above the wheel well shroud. They are held to the clam with little plastic rings via glue. I found the glue on mine had failed and the hoses were resting on the shrowd.
- There's a little bipod under the gagues cover that is used to hold down the end farthest from the driver. The glue pads on that were also found to no longer be sticky.

Luckly the chassis is holding together

Yeah...it's actually totaly slick on the back of the puck and the residue left on the windshield. I thought that rather odd.

Yeah...it's actually totally slick on the back of the puck and the residue left on the windshield. I thought that rather odd. The glue used to mount the mirror is more like super glue than regular glue - it hardens and solidifies, it's not really sticky after it sets up.

i meant work in the general sense of size, weight. I suspect that the size and weight of the mirror is about right. There are just a little bit wider than my home made mirror, and although not really necessary, an extra half inch in width would be just fine.

I've been planning on getting one of the screw on mounts, and then cutting/filing/modifying it into a mount that would attach to the Elise's OEM plinth. I just haven't gotten around to it.

Those "billet" mirrors are available from several sources. The price on the web site you pointed to is reasonable, some of the web sites want almost twice the price for the same mirror. Some are brushed aluminum, and some are polished. I'd go for the brushed finish although I'd prefer it to be black - but I haven't seen them in anything but aluminum finish. I suspect that the Micro Mirror is sourced from similar sources, since the various web sites usually offer either the rectangular or the oval shapes.

If we could actually find out who makes them, and convince them to make a mount that would install to the OEM mount, they would probably sell quite a few.

There is nothing at all wrong with the Micro Mirror, but I personally don't like the oval shape, and after experimenting with my home made mirror, I prefer it mounted higher up. The main disadvantage of the OEM mirror to me is that it hangs down into my line of vision and from the Micro Mirrors I've seen in other cars, it appears to extend down to the same level. My home made mirror is higher on the windshield, and I look under it to see out the front. A slight glance up and I can see out the rear. I'll grant that I can't see as high "up" into the SUVs stopped behind me at the light as I could with the OEM mirror, but I can see far down the road behind me just fine.

Just to give you another option. Adamant had a small suction-cup mirror on my car when I bought it from him. I recently broke it and had to order another. Only $4.95 online (cost just as much for shipping and handling, so I bought 2). Cheap, and you have the option of moving it at will.
A:
Tim,, there is a company called ryno manufacturing that makes custom mirrors from the sublime to the ridiculous.

i haven't found their direct contact yet ( http://www.rynomfg.com/ ), but heres an example of some of the latter.

Good opportunity to move the mount 1 inch to the right and 1 inch higher regardless of what mirror you use. Get the glue at any auto parts store, I just had to do it.

So, I'm driving along, and then all of the sudden, the rearview mirror just falls off the windshield and into my lap. The adhesive pad is not even sticky anymore. Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone have a recommendation for re-attaching it...or should I just go to Pep Boys and get a mirror mounting kit. I really don't want to waste the time to go to the service center just for glue.
If anything, mount a US standard mirror mount and buy a cheap small mirror from AUtozone to replace the ridiculously large Lotus mirror. $20 tops. You're driving a Lotus and you call yourself a cheapskate? You'll get over it, trust me. Good luck!!!
