Q:
This one shows how much the glass protrudes from the black housing on the driver's side (by the blue tape). I later filled in the gap with black silicone to seal it and smooth it out.

This was probably asked and answered already, but..
Is it possible to just remove the stock mirror glass and use this one instead? It seems like stacking them is an odd solution.

The mirror housing can be removed, but I don't know if you can separate the glass (I guess you could break it off). However, the new mirror are sized to fit inside the housing, so the new mirrors are slightly smaller than the originals. I wonder if they could make then to replace the OEM glass if they had some housings.

LOL! I was waiting for someone to comment on that. The furniture is there temporarily.... Doing some work inside the house.

So now that people are using the mirrors, are they better than simply getting a convex replacement mirror from Lotus for the UK market; in other words the same as the current passenger side. It would be a much cleaner install.

Good question. Based on what I've seen so far, I'd be more inclined to get the Lotus convex mirror.

Dear All:
In a differnt thread, it mentioned that there are different sizes from 8.8 to 9.4. Did you all get the same size? And for both mirrors? Which size did you go with and why? I undertsand that the higher the number, the more of a curvex you get? (which may in turn create more headache if you're not used to it?)

I installed the multivex mirrors yesterday. They completely elliminate the blind spot. If a car is directly beside you on the drivers side you can see its rear wheel in the multivex mirror. The Lotus convex mirror will not do this. Cosmetically they are not perfect. The edge shows.
For me, I am happy with the Multivex.

I didn't specify the size / curvature. I just took what they gave me.
I agree with Dan. These mirrors are better than a standard convex mirror. They cover more area. The fit & finish is a bit of a compromise, but only for us anal types that get inspect things to the point of bumping our noses into it. From a "conversational" distance, you don't notice the edges at all. The increased visibility is worth the trade off, IMO. And, in the end, if you don't like them.... take'em off! It's a reversible mod.

I'm not thrilled about how they look "add-on", but then again, they look a whole lot better than the little 3 inch spot mirrors wrom Wal-Mart I would have had to add...

They would probably look better if someone came up with a thin black rim to put on them, instead of seeing the edge of the glass. Maybe something like a thin rubber tube cut down one side that is then wrapped around the edge (and glued where it meets itself). Or, something similar with plastic. That would greatly improve the cosmetics.

I don't think so because it is so flimsy, unless it is already split the whole length and you glued it the whole way around.

If you are considering a piece of trim around the perimeter of the mirror why not just tape off and paint the edge black? It shouldn't affect the reflective capabilities any more than if it were placed in a housing. And, if done carefully, should blend nicely with the OEM housing and harder for the untrained eye to see. For us anal types, it might help. My mirrors ship Friday so I am thinking about trying this.

Just painting the edge will still show the roughness of the edge. A trim piece will be smoother looking.

Just put on my new mirrors. Haven't driven with them yet, so I can't say I like them or not. I parked with two cars behind me so y'all can see the difference the mirrors make in practical application.
first one will also be a test for size (never posted a pic before). Hope this helps someone decide one way or the other.
One minus I do see is that the mirror shape doesn't fit the OEM shape exactly. So there's a little bit of the OEM mirror that's visible. Very small, but there. Probably smaller than an 1/8th of an inch at the largest area.

here's the rest. I also removed the two sided tape that came with the mirrors and replaced them with industrial strength two sided tape (home-depot). I figure it's stronger and thinner. Which reduced the amount of mirror extending outside the OEM mirror trim.
