Tall Person's Seat

Interior Exterior

Q:
I finished installing my new “tall person’s” seat and am very pleased with the outcome.
Here’s a photo of the new driver’s seat next to the stock passenger seat for comparison. The new seat is wider and I sit about 1” lower. I mounted the seat a bit more vertical than the stock seat, which also gave me some more leg room.
Contact Shinoo at Sector 111 regarding availability, etc. Note that this is the first prototype, which shows a bit of rework. The next one should be clean.

Here’s a picture from a different angle.

This photo shows the shoulder harness going through the seat back and attaching to the harness bar. Also note the four fasteners that attach the seat to a bracket bolted to the harness bar. The seat attaches to the seat rails with four bolts, and the rails attach to the stock mounting points. I did not make adjustable rails.

As you can see in this photo, the new seat has great lateral support. Since it is aluminum, it can be bent (some) to fit your particular size and shape.

Finally, this pair of photos shows the relative height of the new seat and the stock seat. Even though I still sit rather high, I am now sitting about an inch lower than before.

It looks to me that the top of the windshield intefers with your line of site. If so, how can you drive that way?
A:
Looks good. What kind of rear view mirror is that?
A:
The top of the windshield is well above my line of sight for normal driving. The only problem is when i'm stopped at a traffic light, watching for the light to change. Sometimes it's easier to look over the top of the windshield, sometimes I need to move my head up/down to find it.

Here's a link to my earlier posting on the rear view mirror:

Wow Chococar I am about 6'2 and have to stop well in advance of a traffic light with the hard top on in order to see the light. For you it must be hell. I was tempted early on to install a mirror on the dash so that I could see the lights. I might try this out once the snow clears.

Very nice!
A:
plesset,
The solution is easy: leave the top off! Oh, you don't live in California, do you... Sorry.
You're right, though, with the top in, I have to turn sideways to see the traffic light.

Today I removed the adjustable lumbar support from my stock seat and installed it (temporarily) in my new seat with duct tape (see photo). It is helpful to get the fit "just right".

Sure Chococar...kick me when I am down Once my gull wing top comes I may just open the top whenever I am at a light, or I may just add a periscope to the old hard top

I remember my father having one of these prisms to see the lights better in his Porsche 356.

Joe,
Thanks for letting me test out your seat. It's definitely a good fit for me.

I have been in a lot of sports cars, but never the NSX. How does it compare
with your elise as far as leg and headroom are concerned?
A:
Sorry, I've never been in an NSX.
