Q:
Hi all,
I just put a deposit down on an Exige S yesterday and joined Elise Talk today. I'm putting together my build list and need a favor. I'm partial to the Aubergine Purple from the pictures I've seen. But the thing about purple is it's gorgeous when done right and awful when done wrong. I want to see it live and in person. Is there anyone in the Portland, OR or Chicago, IL area with an Elise or Exige with this paint color? If so, can I bother you for a personal viewing? Please send me an email and let me know. TIA.

Exige S in AP? Just say no... Please

I've seen it in person. Girl color. Nice, but a girlie color IMO.

My friends have a purple Elise and it's a little girly, but would look tougher on an Exige.

Purple looked cool on a Prowler I saw, not so sure about this one though !!
A:
Not my favorite color. I personally think it's the worst color Lotus makes second to the one that looks like grass that a dog vomitted. Funny I can't remember the name of that one.

AB or BRG?

I may be biased, but thumbs up!!! GEAUX TIGERS!!!

I thought it looked pretty cool on the Elise, and would think it would be interesting on an Exige S.

True to form, purple is a polarizing color. I had an Alfa that was a royal plum color and it was spectacular when cleaned and polished. I loved the purple they used on the Stevens Esprit. On the other hand, I don't remember the model, but I believe there was a GM sporty sedan in the 90s that tried some version of purple that was completely girlie. That's exactly why I want to see it in person. So does anyone have an Elise/Exige in AP that I can see? Preferably within an hour or two from Portland, OR or Chicago, IL. Actually, the Birmingham, UK area might work too.

I really like the purple but we need more pics

I've seen the purple in person. Looks good as purples go. Very dark. At 5pm, with the sun low in the sky, it wasn't obviously purple until I got next to it. First guess was black.
I think there are several pics in the pic thread.

I've seen Aubergine Purple in person and I think it looks pretty cool - definitely not just a girly color. I know there's at least one in the Chicago area; I've seen it on the streets. Not sure who though...

For some reason everyone always thinks my car(s) are purple.
First was my Nautical blue MR2... people said it was purple.
Second was my Royal Sapphire pearl Supra... people thought it was purple.
Finally my STARLIGHT BLACK Elise... my friend came up to me and said: "What is it with you and purple cars?
I think I saw an AP Elise at the dealership here... I quickly averted my eyes

Here are a few. With the black accents on the Exige it looks tough enough to be purple. I lke the black cast Exige wheels on this car as well. I am not sure what your options are for 2007. This is a 2005 UK car and the metal flake is little larger on the 2006/2007 chip charts.

My $.02 on the purple:
When I first ordered my Elise ::sigh:: I ordered Purple thinking back to the purple that was used on the Esprit... This is not that purple. It's not as deep, not as metallic... a little too Barney for my tastes.
Personally, I love purple on cars, but it has to be deep, dark, and have a hint of metallic. Aubergine is none of those things. it's more like LA Lakers than the harbinger of death.
You're right to want to see it in person, NONE of the pictures I've seen (including those above) actually look like it does in the flesh ... or the GRP as the case may be.
A:
I agree with Brian. I think in the sun it gets more purple. In overcast weather it proabaly looks better. The bigger metal flake makes it look more girly too.

Thank you for the comparison to the Esprit. That gives me a point of reference. Deep, dark, and a hint of metallic is what I was looking for. As one of the other posters mentioned, it should almost look black at first glance. The pictures above (thanks, Steuspeed) illustrate my concern. The first one looks like the photos on various websites and similar to the Esprit purple. The next three, the color looks more like the Royal Plum of my old Alfa. The final picture, I can totally see the LA Laker purple. So, my search continues. Anyone in the Chicago, IL, Portland, OR or Birmingham, England area with an AP Elise/Exige want to show it off to a to-be owner (deposit is down, just waitin' for my turn!).
