Turn signal - came loose at 80mph!!!

Interior Exterior

Q:
While cruising at 80mph down I-75 in Miami yesterday, the turn signal suddenly came loose. Had it not been for the electrical wires the signal unit would have been long gone. Bad news is that it flew around the front of the car tethered by electrical wires striking the clam causing scratches and small chips. The signal is pretty much destroyed.

Is this a warranty item? I had the car at the dealer the prior day for installation of a new steering rack and the headlight burn rings (warranty items). Seems like a coincidence, dealer is messing around with the headlights, next day the turn signal flies off the car!

I would definitely take it back to the dealer and ask them to fix it. Seems more than a coincidence that they had just worked on the car and then PRESTO - a problem...

No starshield? Where did it chip/scratch?

Can't imagine how the jobs you've mentioned would lead to a turn signal popping out. Sounds like a coincidence - they've been going as of late.
A:
No starshield. The signal was tethered by a foot long piece of electrical wire - you can imagine how this would fly around at 80mph, like a kite on a string. Scratches are above the turn signal area.

This is a known issue and there is a solution - see your dealer

Mine isn't on a foot of wire. It barely comes out a few inches. Did Lotus change that at some point?
A:
This has happened to many people, including myself. See the following thread, and the thread it references. It is a warranty item.
In particular, for the European fix to it, see the following post

How did I miss all those threads! Sorry for the duplicate, should have searched first. You'd think Lotus would fix all cars since it's so common and the plastic euro clips are inexpensive. The potential for expensive paint damage is high.

Mine has more than a foot of free wire. Like I said, the frigging signal was like a kite when it let go at 80mph. I'll definately zip tie the spare wire next time around.
