Hi guys,
My name is Andrea and I am new to the forum. I did a search on lambo doors,
and I just read about alot of people arguing about them and no info where I can get them here in the states. My little brother has put many kits and custom jobs on different cars and claims any car can be lamboed-door.
He also said hinges run 350-1000 and not to pay any more. So is there a actual kit made for our cars? Or do I have to do a custom kit? I like the look
so pleasssseee don't ask me why. I know i got alot to learn so be easy on me guys.
Love you and thanks ahead of time!
Andrea

You know what...I actually think that if the hinge actually really went jack-knife up 90 degrees instead of more outward diagonal like most the kits that this is a very practical thing. Often I find that I am close to other cars and ingress/egress is made even more difficult than it needs to be.
You'd have to create a lightweight hinge that didn't add too much more weight (I mean our doors weigh nothing anyways), and they would have to work perfectly meaning actually save some space so you could open the doors straight up. This could be one of those things that actually make sense lol (if you can get over the whole tuner thing, but really, if it saves your doors and is not "too" expensive...)

well, i don't have the answer for you, but welcome to the forum anyway.

i've seen one kit made in japan (on a laser blue elise) but it looks like they custom fabbed the door line and recut/welded the fender/door line to make the door open wider for easier entry...
now considering the elise is hard as it is to get into... i'd really think twice about tossing on lambo doors on an elise.... let alone problems with seals/leaks/wind noise....

IMO, the door hinge, as it exists on the Elise/Exige, is one of the greatest pieces of art on the car. Why mess with it?

+1 ... lambo doors look cool... but i'd say keep 'em on the lambos.... can't even begin to imagine what that might do to your resale value of your car...

toyota dealer had "lambo doors" on a scion Xc. They made me laugh in that I thought they were junk! The door and hinge "jiggled" and the entire setup felt cheap. It made ingress/egress more difficult too.

Welcome aboard, Andrea. The main issue I've heard with the retrofit lambo doors is how flimsy they can be. You're little brother would know better than most of us if he has much experience installing them on other cars. There is no kit specifically for the Elise. I agree with the Ingress/egress issue, though (especially egress). In order to not complicated things further that door would have to be pretty much completely vertical and not block too much of the front part of the aperature. Let us know if you find something that works. They do look cool.

Keep the hinges billet, keep the additional weight under 5 lbs. total for both sides, make them run pure up and down and finally keep the price under $1000 and you'll sell a whole bunch, myself included.
Bling be damned!

The gt factory latches open the highest, but they are weld on. They also
open up both ways. You don't always have to swing them up. If someone volunteered their car to decah or another latch maker, that might help. They
are going to weigh alot more then stock, but I don't race my car. Its my daily driver.

My car came with Lambo Doors...hmmm...you guys got ripped off.

I wouldn't recommend installing "Lamborghini-style" scissor doors. There is a thread on Lambo Power about a guy and his passenger who got trapped when their Murcielago flipper and they burned to death.

The door hinges on the Elise are pure car porn.

Well I think your better off not doing it at all. I've seen many cars with this and I dont care who makes it, it never holds up. The doors start to sag and the hinges get all wigly, do yourself a favor leave it alone I have never ever seen a after market lambo style door system turn out well and all it will lead to is you wishing you never did it in the first place.

I respect that; you should have the car how you like it. However, I would agree with the previous posters; I think it will cause you problems and headaches (especially if you hit your head on them ), and can hurt the resale value of the car. I would not recommend doing it.

cant weld the hinge on our cars....no one makes a aluminum hinge. Besides pesonal experience.... i had them on my integra....worst thing i ever did.....i bought them to help the car sell.....they did..... but they screwed up my fender, door, they were flemsy, constantly had to readjust them, and if you didnt shut it just right it would bang up the door jambs. I highly recomend not trying it.....i know its a personal taste thing to have them....i like them....on certain cars.....might look ok on an elise.....but it really isn't worth the headache.....he is my integra

I agree with this. The massive stock al-loo-men-ee-um hinge is a work of art. I've seriously gotten compliments on my larger than normal door hinge. Don't "Lambo" the doors. Very rice and cheesy. Buy a Murcialago if you want the up turning lambos. Plus, getting in and out of the car would prove to be difficult with a hardtop on. Look at the way the aftermarket doors are designed. You would need a door system like the Koenigsegg CCR. Just my opinion of course.
