Q: OK I finally got some time to work on the car. This is my first original MOD . In addition to doing the radio antenna extension, which was really easy, I installed a G-Tech meter. I know this is not the high end meter that Stan and others use but this one is all I need. Plus I think it looks better and the light matches the stock dash color. Even though there is no "bling-bling" in racing I did not want something that looked out of place. I had a piece of aluminum cut and bent then used the two screws under the tray to mount it. I did not want to do anything that could not be removed without a trace. Power cord is just plugged into the outlet and ran through the hole in center metal brace to keep it out of the way. The stock power cord that comes with this meter has an On/Off switch built in so I can leave it plugged in and turn power on as needed.
Also I never posted pics of my Leather Console which is from the factory and even though some may dis-agree I think it totally makes the interior. My next project is to get the A/C surrond painted red.
Hope you enjoy the pics......

Wow, cool mod.....OK cheap bump. Nobody even came to look at what I did. Maybe I should of titled this thead "Bring back (*&%" or else I'm leaving." Guess that would not have brought any interest either.
Oh well, I'll just enjoy it myself.

Ha, I thought it was a cool little mod. Nice job!

Not a fan of the gauge thing but I love the console.
The shifter book really pulls it together, matching the seats.

Is that one of the G-tech Pro units? If so, how does it work for ya? I have one of the original ones though I haven't ever had a chance to throw it on the Elise yet. Mostly because it's buried down in one of my electronic geeky gadgets drawers and I forgot about it until now.
I do like the way the consol ties everything together. Looks clean!

I also have had the unit buried until now. I did not like it on the windshield and took forever to figure out a good mount for it. It is the Pro model, I just wanted someway to measure lateral G's for fun. I did use it in the car when I first got it and it seemed to work pretty well. Now that it is on a better mount I will let you how I like it. That is if it ever stops raining .

Now that I have the unit mounted I am re-thinking the red A/C surrond idea. I like the way the G-meter is the same color as the other gray plastic. Even though I was never a fan of the gray plastic to begin with.

I haven't really figured out the desire to paint the A/C surround. Having one random blob of color in the middle of an all silver/black dash just doesn't seem to make much sense. I've seen it in person, and it just looked very out of place. The entire floor console? That works and blends in with the doors, etc. but the surround just looked like an afterthought. Your mileage may vary... but now I have to go look around for the updated G-tech on E-bay!

This bracket works nicely as well. It even has a standard 4 bolt pattern for mounting cell phone brackets, xm radios, and traq-mate. I don't mean to sabotage your thread but this is another alternative that takes about 20 minutes to make.

No sabotage, I thought about mounting the meter like that but it would get to close to where my leg sits while driving. That is why I opted for the "higher road" so to say. I do like that other bracket though, great idea for mounting anything you may need. I had not seen that thread before.
On the painted A/C surround I guess I liked the idea of getting rid of the gray plastic more than anything else. It was such an improvment when I did the console. Now that I have the meter I think I will leave the A/C alone.
