NRG's Schroth Harness Installed~!!!

Interior Exterior

Q:
just took a few hours today installing a pair of schroth asm profi II harness along with the sector 111 4tress bar. the hardware kit makes it a breeze to interchage between the harness or stock belts....

A:
that looks like a nice install. I am not sure if you still have the directions that come with the harnesses,I have the same one and read the directions thoroughly. i keep seeing people putting harneses on seats that are not meant to accomadate harnesses. the scroth instructions clearly show that they strongly recommend using seats that have holes in the shoulder area for the harness. it also says not to cut holes in seats that dont already have them cut out. i sat in a setup like what you have and it felt to me (at least) that if i was restrained that it would dislocated/break both my shoulders as the harneses were spread to wide. you have a nice car, it might be worth investing the $ to get the right seats for the harness.
it does look like a nice clean install though

point very well taken. thanks.... i bought these harnesses after some considerable discussions with neil. i wouldn't dare considering cutting holes in the seats. i might consider popping in those new lowmax brides... but that might be later down the line... as far as safety concerns from running these belts on a stock seat with no hole... i will look further into... again thanks!

What about modifying the seats?
A:
THATS HOT!!!!

The install instructions also indicate that crossing over the harnesses behind the seat is an acceptable install configuration. I initially installed these like the original poster did, but felt the straps spread too wide even when cranked down, so I swapped positions on the harnesses (so that the yellow tagged harness would be holding my inboard side) and cross them over behind the seat, which feels much more secure. As with everything, YMMV.

Nice seats! More pics or info?

Curty, I'm interested in those seats. Any info on them? Thx M8!

Morning guys,
the seats are standard Lotus seats, as fitted to the (Euro) S2. The loops for the harness are - donīt laugh - stainless steel or ali (canīt remember) kitchen cabinet handles.
Just drilled throught the seat shell and countered with a nut on a spreader plate (more a spreader strip).

as SIMPLE as that sounds, or funny... i think that's quite INGENIUS~!!!

any idea where to buy some good cabinet handles? i know ikea sells some and possibly home depot?
so you just have to drill into the fibgerglass seat shells? and just bolt them from the back side i assume? did you have to pull your seats out to do it, or was it pretty easy with seats in? thanks!
A:
I honestly have no idea where I got the handles. Just look for some metal ones that seem sturdy :-).
I drilled the holes while the seats were out for the installation of the harness bar. I imagine it would be fiddly (but doable) if you tried it in situ.
Just make sure you drill slowly, I was anxious the fibreglass might crack otherwise. I bolted them with a nut from the backside and added a strip of metal bent to shape between the nut and the seat shell to spread the load

Home made engineering, now that is innovation...

Interesting thread. I think we need to get someone from Schroth involved since this is really a serious safety issue. My shoulders, for instance, are definitely higher than the shoulder bolster of the stock elise seat and I'm 6'2". My understanding is the slots should not be significantly lower than the collar bone or they will place enormous stress on the seat or the collar bones. If the slot on the elise is high enough for me, I doubt there would be enough material left above them to keep the belt from ripping the seat at the shoulder areas. So my thought was - no slots and cross over the straps behind the seat. The only problem is that crossing over the straps behind the seat is a measure one takes when the harness bar is pretty far behind the seat - not the case in the elise of course. So the question I have is if crossing over the straps directly behind the seat is safe practice. My worry is that it would place an eccentric stress on the belt straps in a collision.

So are these seats special ordered or did someone just cut holes in them?
Looks like they'd be ok as long as you're not too tall. But, of course, its impossible to tell if they'll hold up when you need them ;-)

same here.. I would buy a kit if they were for sale..

Those slots in the tan/red car are cut into the seats. Not advisable unless your neck is 2" wide.... but perhaps they spread enough. Also the sub straps wrap around the front of the seat, also bad.... Look for my other rants on belts in other threads, I think I've soap-boxed enough...
To address girani's post a little, a bar (or holes in the seat restraining the upward movement, mostly the bar though) being too low causes spinal compression in an impact. That equals bad.
Regards.
A:
Have you seen anyone mount a single or double sub strap in the stock exige sport seats? I know they have proper holes in the headrest but how would one add a sub stap?
A:
Have an upholsterer cut a hole and pad the sides of the hole appropriately. If you're handy and comfortable with upholstery, DIY...
You then need a way to mount sub straps, Shinoo's bar (sector111) being the easiest and frankly, the most practical..
Regards.
