Interior Exterior
Q:
my original thread is here
I only had pictures of mine at first because i thought it was something that the service dept. did while installing the embellisher rings...
today, i was at the dealer dropping off my new tires and took some pictures of the cars in their showroom... and man was it hard taking pictures with all the sunlight and reflections and such.. but i picked out the ones that actually showed up and circled the scratches... and some aren't even scratches... some i don't even know what they are...
it turns out the sports elise has probably the cleanest set of headlights and if i need a swap i would like to take those but that would be mean to the future owner... one other car had a good enough pair but i forgot which car...
i've also contacted several lotus dealerships in the country and have gotten a few replies already stating that they have this problem on a few of their cars... some are just with their exiges...
anyway... here are the pics i got today
POLL choices were going to be:
1. Yes, i just noticed them and will contact my dealer (0)
2. Yes, but i don't care and will leave them as is (0)
3. No, mine are clean with the embellisher rings installed (1)
4. No, mine are clean without the embellisher rings installed (2)

There's no clear plastic film installed over them, is there? Like the paint protection film, but for headlights? The marks remind me of what I saw when I installed that stuff on my headlights; most of it went away after a few weeks in the sun.

That may be from the vapors released when the housing is glued together. Looks like it's from cyanoacrylate crystals forming in some pics. Others look like regular scratches.
I have that, and also on my front windshield. Doesn't bother me too much.

I don't have anything like that, but I have some scratches on the outside of my headlights. I don't care though. I'm not a perfectionist when it comes to the looks of my Elise. I bought it to drive, not to look at (or be looked at). I have quite a few little scratches and a couple of cracks on both the front and rear clam that don't bother me at all. When I'm stuck to the road in a sweeping curve, the little scratches on my car are the last thing on my mind. If it bothers you though, you should have the dealer take care of it.

Headlights are perfect, but I found several imperfections in the starshield and paint. Small blemishes don't bother me if I cannot see them from a few feet away. I am with shiftlock; the car is for driving.

hey randy... could you possibly fix this thread into a real poll please?

i bought it for driving and looks... i've found at least 3 paint defects but have only noted them and don't plan on getting it repaired because of the color matching...
if the scratches and cracks in the clam were caused by me driving the heck out of it and enjoying myself... i would be a little sad after discovering... but what can i do... i did it on my own...
if i found someone had keyed my car... i would be freakin POed... but what can i do about that either... get it fixed and spend a lot of money, get it fixed under insurance and have a risk of premium going up... or just live with it after posting on this forum what some A-Hole did to my car...
this on the other hand is like this from the dealer... brand new... i don't know about anyone else... but if i had found a crack in my rear clam when i bought the car... i may be inclined to have them take care of it...
and as you can see... these are all brand new cars in their showroom...
i knew that while i was posting this from previous posts there are those people who could care less about a couple of defects and such because it's for driving... but i'm sure there are some who would be upset to find their new car to have a blemish... just my opinion...

Mine were perfect from the show room. I had the embelisher rings installed prior to delivery and they still look perfect.

I don't have any scratches on the clear part, but there are gouges in the black plastic near the beam. I've seen them on other cars at the dealer also.
I haven't made a big deal about it, or even mentioned it as of yet.

i've learned that even if i don't do anything... it's good to make note of it...
seems only the people without the scratches are posting...

i was told by Lotus that honestly, the headlights aren't that great, not that good of quality... so basically it other words, we're not gonna do anything... and

It appears that I have the same type of deep (mechanically-induced) scratches on the black plastic, like the dealer used some sort of oversized tool to install/replace that heat ring thingy. There is even some curled shavings of black plastic inside the housing that are obviously from the gouges. Pretty bad.

I had my gouged headlights replaced under warranty, and the new ones are now gouged, too...
You'd think they'd actually fix the problem so they don't get lemon-lawed!

what is this gouge in the headlights? any pics? and how the heck did you get it covered under warranty? may i ask what dealership?
A:
Gouges:
The bulb reflracts the sun like a microscope and burns the black plastic inside the headlight housing.
I got them replaced under warranty because it's a factory defect.

You can see the gouges starting up again at the bottom left of that pic.
