An inch of top soil and some grass seed. That way when the tub leaks you can water the grass...
A Chia grass seat would go good with yellow.

perhaps comfort was the wrong choice of word. maybe it has a little more to do with visual appeal. but hey, why would anyone even bother either painting the center console, covering it in leather, or replacing it with a CF one? did those individuals not like a certain aspect of how 'raw' the car is?

Hey Toast,
One of the reasons I love and hate forums is posts like this...
First off, it's your car, if you want to paint it pink with baby blue dots, have fun .
I don't have my Exige just yet, however one of the reasons that people are drawn to the lotus brand is because of its legendary history of light weight cars, hence one of the reasons as to why people are blasting you, they feel that if you add weight to the car it’s the same as selling off your first born child (but yet some people are okay with adding large speakers and amps… go figure )
Another reason as to why people are blasting you is because the exige/elise is made from extruded aluminum, that’s the visible aluminum that draws a large portion of people to this car, to some (I have to admit, I see it this way) it’s considered as a work of art that’s why the rest of the crowd is shooting you down.
To be honest, I’m more on their side than I am on yours, I love the fact that the raw car is out to touch and feel, and to me it makes the statement I just wish some one took a second to explain why you now have a hate group forming.
The raw aluminum to me states:
"This is me, if you like it fine if you don't screw off"
But I do see what you're talking about, if you want a more "plush" look and feel the best thing would be to take it shop that does boat interiors, the reason why I say boat is because they have more experience adhering carpet/leather/vinyl/Alcantera to the materials found on the exige/elise.
Good luck, and remember what I said:

Where's Perry?
When someone posted earlier about animal hides, I couldn't help but think about the Dave Chappelle skit about racial "pixies." The Hispanic pixie:
"It's genuine leopard holmes!"
The pixie was trying to talk someone into buying seatcovers.
frickin' hilarious.

Oh, come on, Gears. It's not a hate group. It's just passionate people defending their cherished icon.

1+. Don't take it too hard.

Look, if you want to make your Elise more like a living room, why don't you just go the whole way?
Like on this recent Top Gear episode where a Mercedes got an English country living room interior:

Wallpaper might work.

come now, guys... why can't a trimmed down sports car be a slight bit more comfortable?
I think you bought the wrong car.

i haven't bought it yet. although the last question i expect to hear from a potential passenger is:
'why can't i see the exposed aluminum chassis of this trimmed-down, spartan, superb-handling sports car? i mean, it's still superb-handling, but where's all that bare metal?'
it doesn't bother me that this topic has generated some bad local press. i think this may be something that is best left to be seen, instead of talked about. i have a feeling i have a far better result in mind than most of you might.

I have thought of covering some of the aluminum myself. For a few reasons, but one of them is because it is easily scratched and I'd like to protect the material. Another reason is EVERYTHING slides in the tray. Why? Because I bought the car to corner in and it needs a mat or something inside it to hold stuff still.
I think it's a valid question and one I've thought of as well. Not to hide the aluminum, but rather to improve some of the functionality and protect it.
Anyone want to see the zebra print contact paper I'm considering?
A:
I predict the first Elise with a faux wood interior.
as long as he uses Balsa !!!

'70's orange shag carpet. The floor, the dash, the aluminum, everything. That would be da bomb.

As others have stated, it's your car, life, money, etc, so do whatever you want. But in doing so, you should be prepared for "feedback", if you will.
IMO, things like you're suggesting are akin to adding clothes to the statue David -- it's not how it was envisioned by the artist.

Perhaps TheToast would like a Buick Le Sabre? Yes?

You're just associating with the wrong kind of people
A:
There you go. The only bare aluminum showing in the interior is the inder-dash tray and the steering wheel hub. It looked kind of nice...in a Thunderbird kind of way.
I love that center console with the open shift gate, what is that from?
A:
You can indeed do whatever you like to your own car. I think almost everyone here bought the car BECAUSE of the the aluminum look. Well, that and the phenominal handling, driving, fun stuff....

FYI: I will be using that at least once in a meeting I have in a couple of hours.
I love it.
