Interior Exterior
Q:
Some people, when they peer into the interior, say "Oh, it looks like a race car." I've found as many mean that in a negative way as those who mean it in a positive way. Which is fine with me-the ones who are put off by the aluminum tub don't want to get it and go for a ride. I think its beautiful as is-I wouldn't alter it. I'm with DaddyD-I'd like to see the aluminum on the side rails too. Let's see some pics of that if you do it.

One of the reasons that I didn't get the Touring Package was that I didn't want the sides covered with all that silly carpet.
Bare aluminum all the way - and not painted center console for me either...

i haven't bought it yet. although the last question i expect to hear from a potential passenger is:
'why can't i see the exposed aluminum chassis of this trimmed-down, spartan, superb-handling sports car? i mean, it's still superb-handling, but where's all that bare metal?'
it doesn't bother me that this topic has generated some bad local press. i think this may be something that is best left to be seen, instead of talked about. i have a feeling i have a far better result in mind than most of you might.
I've had some thoughts about this too but refrained from posting because of the kinds of replies you are seeing.
Anyway, what I had started thinking about is how difficult it would be to cover a lot of the interior in leather and kind of make it a little nicer. But the issue really is how to attach the stuff...I suppose one could use some kind of adhesive.
I later just concluded that you can't make the car be something it's not.

Actually, somewhere in the archives, there are pics of an Elise with the interior covered in leather. It was very tastefully done, beautiful and supposedly made for a very quiet ride.
BTW.....we're all just toying with thetoast. No harm intended.

Quote of the year:
"Things like you're suggesting are akin to adding clothes to the statue David -- it's not how it was envisioned by the artist."
FYI: I will be using that at least once in a meeting I have in a couple of hours.
I love it.
You have my leave to go forth with this. May it bring you success in your endeavors.

Strip the chassis bare and have it anodized in the color of your choice, then put it back together. Should be easy, right?
Seriously, leave it bare. The raw feel is part of the fun of this car.

I love that center console with the open shift gate, what is that from?
The car is the 2007 Tesla Roadster. The console does look nice, but it wouldn't work in the Elise. Since the Tesla "shift lever" is just an electric switch, it is very small. The shifter in the Elise is too big to fit in a slim console like that.
Something similar could probably be made that could house the Elise shifter, but it would have the bulge in the middle like our current one does. Besides, Elise/Exige people want gauges in their console.

Conan,
Well I used your quote, and named you in the quote... No joke...
3 people laughed,
2 people asked the person next to them why the 3 were laughing,
5 people smiled and looked at me showing that they agreed with the statement,
3 people looked at me with hate (these were the 3 people that wanted the "change").
Being that we are in America and we vote on things, the quote I picked up from you granted me a win over the redicals at a rate of 10 to 3.
Thank you and may you keep us blessed with waky statements that we can use in real life to get us what we want.

Another reason is EVERYTHING slides in the tray. Why? Because I bought the car to corner in and it needs a mat or something inside it to hold stuff still.
Get some Handstands sticky pads and lay them in the tray. You might be able to find them at Radio Shack.
