Black Mirrors. Does this look dumb?

Interior Exterior

Q:
Liz has been under the weather since a little parking lot boo-boo a few weeks ago ( if you care.) The repairs are almost done, but it just feels wrong to drive around flaunting her wounds. People stare...a lot...and now it feels like they're staring at the patch of primer grey on her door. Kinda like walking around with a big zit on your nose .
Anyway, I hate to leave her alone on the weekend, so I painted my grills today. One of her mirrors needed a paint repair, so I wondered what it would look like to match the black trim instead of the body color. The aftermarket CF mirrors look good enough in black, right? Well I did it and now I'm not so sure. Is this cheesy?

A:
Looks ok to me. Mini offers white, black and chrome options on their cars.
A:
i like it.
A:
not too crazy about it... mainly because it's not shiny and no clear coat like the rest of the car.

Yeah. I thought about that, too. I was just trying to keep it consistent since I didn't clear coat the grills either.
A:
Doesn't look TOOOOOO bad. Get some day shots though so we can get a better idea. I'm not to fond of the stock mirrors myself so even painted I dont think they look great.
A:
Makes them look like they're made of black plastic.
A:
I think to make it REALLY work, you'd have to paint everything above the shoulder-line in matching black... or at least the mirror holders, top and rollbar cover in black. The sails are optional.
Oh, and clear coat it.

+1
A:
no likey.
how about aluminum mirrors like Audi's?
A:
Clear-coat it or use a gloss black, then get some day shots. From some of the angles it really ties together some of the other black accents on the car, but from others the flat black looks like an unpainted plastic replacement for broken mirrors. As with others, I would like to see it glossed and then daylight pics to match the bright/glossy/shiney character of the factory paint.
If all else, you never know until you try!
A:
Not big on it, but whatever floats your boat.
A:
ennn... its okay..looks cheep on an exotic looking car...the carbon fiber ones have a glossy look to them..these look plastic-ish doesnt look horrible though
A:
Early UK S2 base models came with black mirrors as standard. Colour coded mirrors were an optional extra back in 2001.
So you could view it as a retro look.
A:
Okay. I put on a few coats of clearcoat and took some day pics. Unfortunately, it's fairly overcast today so the effect isn't great in this light. I'm actually diggin' it with the soft top in place.

A:
I would like it better if the mirror support was also black. Reminds me of boxing gloves.
A:
Looks like the car has mittens on.
A:
If you like it, thats all that matters. I would try a black mirror support though if you plan on keeping it like that.
A:
The clear coating looks a lot better!
How you feel about it is what matters. It will look different in person than it will in a picture (just as the car itself does). Go by how you feel.
