[quote=Dro]The thing is, if you want to modify your car you will never recover your costs on resale. But you do it because you like it and it's fun.
I can't agree more. Very well said. Those of us who can afford to spend money, Buy what you want to buy. Not because you have to, because you like it,it's cool and it's fun. After all you only live once.
A:
i agree....But its a little different because this 35k isnt going to make your elise the fastest elise in the world.
u would basically have to have money to wipe your ass with in order to justify this mod.
Heres another food for thought. How much would your insurance be with this mod. Cuz im sure you would have to notify them that you just put 35k worth of body on your Elise if you want them to cover it if anything were to happen.
Sorry I'm KMS Elise's wife and I just couldn't resist responding to you.
Well there must be a lot of young adults where I live that have money to wipe their ass with because they drive trucks and cars with stereo systems and body modifications that cost 10K-20K average and sometimes the modifications are worth more than their vehicle but they do it because it looks cool and it's fun, obviously not for a monetary return on their investment. If you are worried about spending 35K on a CF Body kit then you should leave your money in the bank and don't worry about reading this thread.
A:
well thank you for your opinion^
here let me go through this way...
i have a 350z
CF hood= $ 900.00
cf hach= $1400.00
cf doors=$3000.00
cf fenders=$1400.00
cf bumpers=$1300.00
that equals $8000.00
then give me another 4k to have someone custom fabricate me some rear quarters and a roof.
That equals 12k exactly what i said i could justify spending for this mod.
35k is a ridiculous amount of money for this.
but i do agree with everything people are saying about mods and your car. You supposed to have fun with it and do what makes you happy.
So buy this is if u want....hell i would love to buy it i think its freakin awsome.
Im just saying its overpriced. Just my .02

Ouch... People are just giving their opinion. You can't blame them for that. Rather than slap prospective customers, why not try and make the product less expensive or just ask for anyone interested to email you. Or you could just edit the title and place a message in there stating "People without $35k to burn, don't bother responding".

I hate to say this but you could probably find a local fabricator or one in China to do something similar for half if not less then the half.
I am sure we could argue all day about the quality of what you would end up with but my point also is that 35k is very steep for what you get.
A:
Yes, you are right. You can probably get these made in China for much less money if you don't care about their quality. I will go a step further by saying that they can probably knock out a copy of an Elise in the same fashion. But I do care about quality and if I am spending my money on something that I am having fun with, I will get the best quality items that I can find for my money. I know the manufacturer who is making these parts personally and how they care about what they produce. I don't mind spending money on the items that are made this way. Maybe that's just me. But lately I am getting a lot of calls and deposits on the CF parts.
BTW, For your info. the CF parts for the 350Z to which you are referring, I asked one of the manufacturer and they are wet layed CF. They told me that Nismo makes Pre-preg CF body parts for their race car and they cost more than $35K. Also wet layed CF parts are about the same weight as the fiberglass parts. Therefore, if you do wet layed CF parts for an Elise you won't be shaving off any weight. If any, it will be a very small amount.

I noticed that you have a pic of the Sport Exige as your icon. Do you know what the price is of that car's CF body? It's a whole lot more than our CF body kit and they are made the same way. Have you seen our car in person yet? How can you say and/or judge 35k is very steep for what you get without having seen the car?

don't beat your head against a brick wall. i think the problem here is you have targetted the wrong audience. these guys are enthusiasts, yes. sponsored racers? i doubt it. you need to be marketing this to people who really do just have so much money to burn that they'd be willing to do this. i think for every 100 elise owners you might find 1 who is willing to do it. japan is a different market with different thinking.
btw, the comments about CF in China? i should know as i live here. the quality of CF is ****E! i mean rubbish. they tried to copy all sorts of parts off of my car and they all turn out rubbish. they flex too much, breakdown in the sun, fall apart, etc. the BEST i've seen so far are Reverie and the new stuff coming out of Japan. If you're gonna convert your car to CF, do it with the best and YES it will be f'ing expensive to do.
KMSElise, may i suggest you bin this thread and start a new one? show the car, the CF close up, the facts and figures etc. professionally done, like in a pdf. then put it in the classifieds or racing section. cos right now you're wasting your valuable time defending a product that does not actually need defending.

Thanks Tony. But We already have a lot of clients who are not on this site that are willing to get these parts and appreciate what we are doing. I am a long time FCA member and those of us who own Elises in our Club are already aware of our products and they are buying them. Since this site is dedicated to the Elise enthusiasts like myself (I drive my Elise almost everyday when I am home), we wanted to share some info with those who appreciate nicer things or are looking for some way to upgrade an Elise. Our community is so small but trying to find out what's available out there sometimes isn't that easy. We don't think we are waisting our time by staying on this site and sharing some infos.. I have made a lot of car friends through this site and we hope to continue to do so. We always run into those who will argue or disagree with us but that is just like our everyday life. We welcome the criticisms and an opinions, but we try to avoid those who are just plain negative or just don't understand.

Wes, I am eager to check out your car in person. Are you going to have it painted or keep the bare look? I'm guessing painting would not be a worthwhile option without adding significant filler, which would defeat the purpose as it adds weight.

I am keeping the bare look since it will be shown at the several events this year. There is a car with this kit that is painted but there are no weight differences between the two. Why do you need to add filler to paint the car? My friend didn't use any filler for his painted CF car.
A:
My understanding is that if you want a perfect finish without any weave visible even after painting, that filler is required. The Carrera GT for example has 60 .lbs worth.
Maybe I am misunderstanding this information and the paint/primer is enough to hide the weave pattern. Or perhaps you only need filler to achieve 100% perfect results.

KMS elise can you please get me complete info on the gold five spoke wheels. I should be taking delivery early next yr, and am very interested in running this setup. Not sure if it requires wide body or not though.? Thank You in advance.
A:
No widebody required. They are a perfect fit. Not sure how concerned you are about weight but the RACs that Shinoo has are lighter and I think even a little cheaper.
A:
KMS, I give you credit for this kit, its a high quality piece that has a purpose unlike the cf that most people are willing to buy. I find it amazing how many people will buy cf just b/c its cf. I point towards a lot of porsche guys who will add any cf piece just b/c its cf. (take that w/ a grain of salt, i spend a lot of time on porsche forums and see SOME quality stuff, but for the most part, those guys think they're elite b/c they're buying cf overlays for their interior or mirrors). I agree that this is probably the wrong market b/c of the price, but I also dont find anything wrong w/ it either. It is made well and w/ performance in mind. I hope you can sell a lot of these kits to the right people and I really hope that there are no vendors that make cheap imitations and give this car a bad name by adding on cheap cf pieces b/c it sounds cool and will impress the kids in their rice. On top of that, the pic w/ the 2 or 3 elises in it looks sick. keep up the good work
A:
I would like to know the where the 224 lbs come from?
Are you saying that this parts weight half of what it's in sector111 site?
Because if I add up the ones listed there it totals to 46.56 lbs CF vs 150.13 lbs Stock for a savings of 103.57 lbs for $35K
What am I missing?
A:
These are the same parts as on sector111.
I'm missing whatever you're missing too.

I have seen the RACs Shinoo will be offering, very nice. For my self, I'm still interested in the five spokes. More from an aesthetic standpoint than performance, however I will be adding a bit more power to make up for the weight gain. How much heavier than stock? Also any company name or site I can view these (5 spokes). Thanks.
A:
needs to be primed and painted....

No wide body mods required. They (Forged) weighs 16x7,+22 front 12lbs and 17x8 +10 rear 14 3/4lbs (wider than stock). Front wheels are offseted enough to accomodate a bigger AP Racing calipers.
