My lid bone snapped in half and no one will call me back

Interior Exterior

Q:
My lid bone snapped in half. I was opening the trunk (lid) after a spirted drive to take the top off and as i opened the the lid the aluminum snapped right in half .Here is the pic. I have called sector 111 since thursday and noone has called me back. I am going to assume that it is because of the holiday weekend that they have not gotten back to me. I hope they replace it I am very disappointed with this product.

It would seem by looking at the angle of the remnant piece that you have the screws too tight. If it was sufficiently loose, the remnant would be hanging straight down.

Hmmm, that is a shame, I am sure they will make good on the problem, When I Installed mine I did not like the idea of Metal to Metal contact points and installed some Nylon washers I had between the 3 pivot points, I think that is the only thing the kit needed. From the look of the picture the joint seized up from metal expansion and broke from the twisting action on the joint from the lid being opened, I have a **** ton of those washers which are much larger than needed I just cut mine down - PM me if you want some washers if you can't source any locally and I will gladly send you some - you just have to cut them down to around 3/4" diameter.

I have serious reservations about this product. It is connecting a moving object (an engine that rolls) with a stationary object that is fragile (the bonnet). It's lucky the bonnet doesn't crack as opposed to the lid bone.

If you look at the , it's a little hard to see but there's a slotted piece that allows for movement due to the torque of the engine. However, if it can't freely slide, particularly when the metal heats up and expands, it could stress the arm.

Looks like you got the bigger half. What did you wish for?
(I'm sure they'll replace it... they're good people.)

It's the holiday, they'll certainly make good on it. Sector 111 are a great bunch ordered from them many times

I'm sure you are all right. I am just frustrated that the lid bone broke because i did not expect that to happen. The bolts are very loose that's just how the pic was taken.

I am just frustrated that the lid bone broke because i did not expect that to happen. I know, man. We all think "it's not gonna happen to me!" We all believe our lid bones will function perfectly forever - pop right up when we want them to, stay firm and upright, and never, ever break! I hope you get through this tough time ok. You have my support, and I'm sure that of the rest of ET as well!

Yup - as soon as they get the message he'll be "stepping large and laughing easy."

Believe it or not, LB dysfunction is a common problem. People just don't like to talk about it...

Also, don't over-tighten the interlinking section bolts. This will allow for some lateral movement of the motor. I have about an 1/8" gap, with no noticeable rattle. You don't have to worry about Sector 111 taking care of issues such as this...

Believe it or not, LB dysfunction is a common problem. People just don't like to talk about it... I've had the LIDBone since it was available and have had no problems with it at all. I am amazed it broke that way, aluminum is soft and not likely to fracture. Odd break really.
What problems are all these people having?

I think we have a case of premature denunciation.

Patricko should be able to "expand" on this.

Does this mean I bought one because I have LIDBONE-envy?

Sometimes a Lidbone is just a Lidbone

My lid bone snapped in half. A clear case of osteopenia. Try adding calcium to your diet!
