Q:
I will be attending the Nov. 25 Homestead, FL N.A.S.A. road track. I am required to have 10 inch numbers affixed to both sides of my Elise. I assume a magnetic sign is useless so it has to be decals. I am considering having permenant numbers affixed. Something proffesional looking and with a race look. I am looking for suggestions.
I have seen the white circles with black numbers and also a white vertical retangular box with black numbers affixed to the doors close to the door hinges. Feel free to help me.

You'll get lots of opinions but I think static vinyl cling works great at all speeds. And don't let anyone tell you they are a pain, I use and abuse mine and they stay on all day.

My observation is that cars with static numbers invariably have tape on the leading edges to hold them on at 130 mph.
I don't know if this is necessary. Maybe they're just being careful, or they've used them many times.
Last weekend I used cheap adhesive vinyl numbers. Then I peeled them off. Fresh coat of wax prior to application.
Got them here: http://www.lettersunlimited.com/
Others have recommended Blair Graphics. This might be it: http://www.blairgraphix.com/ They have pics of Elises http://www.blairgraphix.com/autogallery1.htm I'm told they have a less sticky option.
I got the 9" numbers because I'm cheap. They were plenty big and the organizer isn't uptight.

glad to here you will be at homestead, if you do not want to hassel with number get some blue 1 inch painters tape for 80 cents and make the number at the track, I have large oval static cost me like 100 bucks I do put tape on the leading edge so not to loose them if they get some air, put I clean the area, wet it and apply the static with a squeegie and have had not problem.

$100? Yikes.
My numbers cost me $6 per event.
A:
My static cling (see above) cost me $14 each for the large 111 and $9 each for the ASP. Each lasted all season long.
A:
I hate static cling, but Slaughtr told you to ignore me.
Go to solotime.com for reusable vinyl, my choice. Peel and stick, remove and reuse.

Your forgetting that I'm not as fast as you are, maybe that's why they work for me but not you.
A:
Nahhh, they don't work for me because I'm not patient enough to put static cling on correctly.

The ones from blair graphix are exactly what I was looking for. I would have never found it if it weren't for your help. Thank you so much. I will try the static cling first and formulate my opinion and then vinly if I have to change. I am looking forward to the track. Quarter mile doesn't do it for me anymore.
Slaughtr, what does your "asp" stand for?
A:
ASP is A Street Prepared---it's an SCCA class.

What Surferjer said.
If you look at the picture of his car it says SS after his #. That's the stock class the Elise belongs in in SCCA autoX competition. I'm in ASP because I changed my cat pipe to a Larini "sport" cat pipe. Different mods put you in different classes.

Pic from last weekend. Shows the Chilli well, I think.

I love that color in person.

White pops good on Chili.
I was using silver on my BRP car, but it "dissappeared". It's good to pick a color that pops in contrast.
Anyone know what would look good on LB or PB? I don't think i've ever seen those in competition. On orange I would think black makes the most sense. I don't think you need a white circle around it either.

What happens to properly applied static vinyl when it rains?

Nothing.
Static cling is easy as long as you use lots of water and a squeegy, they install in a couple of minutes each.

If you want contrast, you could always look at a color wheel.
