Some people are touchy about things like that so I removed it. I don't want to start a gun control debate.
Understood - one of the reasons I haven't posted a "so, how do you carry in your Lotus?" thread.
Presumably he wants to hit where he's aiming, and then he wants the target to stop where it is. Neither of these properties make me think PPK. Of course, if the alternative is a 22...
I believe you meant to say... "if the alternative is a .22, this mount will never work since the requisite suppressor will cause the grip to end up around eye-level."
A:
Given the history of Lotus, shouldn't you switch to a PPK?

They make some real small .40's now.
I think Cade was making a James Bond reference

Wow, I never realized how many Elise owners were armed.....I was thinking of getting a Nomex suit for track days. Now I'm thinking Kevlar might be more practical.

LOL... good point! I keep meaning to get a new pistol, and keep putting it off with car stuff coming first... but one of these days I'm going to sell my 9mm and upgrade (significantly) to a match-grade 1911. I don't carry, however. If I did decide to carry, one nice thing about being tall is that I'm not limited as much to smaller framed pistols.
Cade
PS. Yes, 007 reference. Thanks, Patrick!

My solution to this problem is simpler: I just hold my gun at all times. It makes shifting a little more difficult, but when somebody's got to go, he's got to go. No fooling around with a holster. Just shift, shoot, shift.

Someone needs to photoshop machine guns through the headlights, ala spyhunter. Or at least an M2 on a roof mount.
Anyone seen Leonard Part XI? 944 tank...

This is exactly the type of crap ass post that Randy just said would not be welcomed on this board.
Please read the rules....
BTW, there have been plenty of court cases they have made it clear that the police are not here to protect you, they are here to enforce the laws and that is all. Protecting yourself and your family is a task that is left up to the individual.
In reply to the edit: I'm respect that you feel that way; however, I would like to have a conversation without having the anti-gun wing come out of the woodwork because they feel they have to save the world from legally owned firearms. Also, please re-read your post and then read the rules, if you can say it doesn't sound like an attack and that your post has NO bearing on the topic at hand... then I give up.

To add to Genjuro's comment, the reason for the car mounted holster is because it can be difficult to sit in the seats of the Elise with a normal concealed (or open) carry holster. That and if you are going to carry, you might as well be able to actually get to it.

Pretty much anything on a belt will RUIN the leather on the seats. I ask that everyone place their pagers, cell phones, etc. in their pockets or some other place that is comfortable for them.

In California, the law requires that a handgun transported in a vehicle must be unloaded and stored in a locked container (putting it in the trunk counts, putting it in the glove compartment or utility compartment is not acceptable). Rifles and such do not need to be locked up, but do need to be unloaded during transport.
These rules apply to the average resident and visitors. I imagine that there are different provisions for law enforcement types.
Obviously, there still are criminals in this state driving around with loaded weapons. But hopefully they are a minority.

Yes, state laws must be very carefully understood when it comes to such items. If you have a carry permit as a private citizen, or even a law enforcement officer, you must be aware of each set of laws per state. Some states allow out of state residents that are visiting more rights than residents of that state, some restrict more, etc.. It is a very good idea to educate yourself about such things well before you leave the state you are familiar with.
In VA, open carry is totally legal; however I do not do this and a portion of reasons are evident in this thread. The reaction this mild conversation has received is a clear sign of how people FREAK OUT over this topic. In today's world it would mean that you would be contacted by the police shortly after a 911 call had been placed to report someone 'has a gun'.
Fear and a lack of understanding appears in this subject as well as in so many other negative traits that we humans (I'm guilty in other areas) have.

I've known individuals to have some sort of attachment-clip fabricated under their steering wheel hub (OEM steering wheel), which then provides a fixed point that a holster that slides onto. I am quite sure, none of the cars were Lotus Elise's though... (ie. Lexus SC400, Infiniti Q45, Mercedes SL, Acura NSX, BMW 330ci & 540i, etc)
Interesting thought... in a LHD vehicle, is there an advantage/disadvantage being a south-paw if the unthinkable arises and one must take action while in the driver's seat?!?

Interesting way of doing it. I don't know if I would like to do that for the sake of making an officer comfortable if I were ever to be pulled over. I have only been pulled over 2 times in nearly two decades of driving and like to have my hands on the top of the wheel with documents in hand, window down. The proximity at the point is much less.. I suppose I could move my hands to the window sil.
I would imagine that a lefty would be better suited in a LHD.. makes sense....
A:
Think it's counter-productive or even inviting dangerous/perilous situations to have a small decal or sticker on a window saying: armed & protected -or- something else along those lines?
Thanks!

Actually in VA a permit is tied to your license which will display on the computer of any police officer that pulls your plate info.
Many of my neighbors are officers with state or local departments, and they all agree that it is much better to pull someone with a permit, as they know that this person has gone through a background check in order to get that permit.

And there are also some law-abiding citizens doing it. Even sunny CA has a provision for carrying:
