Q:
I just got an email from Sector 111 about this new product.
Please tell me it is not so.
I could never do that to my Exige.
A:
it wont work for the exige. but I think that it has been around for a while.
A:
How does it attach?

With the price of that rack and of course the horror of drilling into the rear clam, I would think the better solution would be to buy a (first or extra) hardtop from Lotus and permanently mount a rack to it.

It just looks weird to have a bike rack on my Elise. I, like probably most of the Etalkers here probably have a commuter that they can use as an alternative. Heck, I have a 3 bike, bike rack and a snow board rack on my SUV. Most of the time that I do go biking it's no place for the Lotus anyways "off-roading".
Good idea though.
A:
I'd be shocked if they've sold 3 of those.

I wouldn't trust the hardtop, its attachment points are not that well designed for something like a bike on top. I think the 'unique rack' is a clever approach and good implementation.

There was another thread here about travelling with 2 race wheels/tires on a removable bar rack. I asked about mounting a bike rack, and teh general consensus was that if it would work for ~50 lbs. of wheels, it would certainly work for a couple of bikes weighing anywhere from 15 (road bikes) - 30 lbs (big hit freeride bike) each. Of course, I don't yet own an Elise so can't add real-world experience.

How 'bout a ski rack?
:P

Hey, it's only $1,500 (plus the cost of the rail that actually holds the bike, fork mount, wheel carrier, etc) lol. and a big hole drilled in the side of your car.
I'd rather give my friend $100 15+ times to let me borrow his truck for a day. Or even do the $20 day rental pickup. Or buy a $1,500 hatchback, pickup, VW bug with a roofrack, etc...
But to each their own. I guess it does solve a "problem". I could imagine dropping my $1,500-$2K (figure in tax, shipping, accessories, installation) to destroy my car and make it look like @ss to get my bike to the trail, I imagine I would rip the undercarraige out from underneath getting through the parking area of the trail entrance.
