Q:
Folks, anyone else getting spider web like cracking in their paint? Mine is doing this in about three places on my rear clam. Specifically a little below where the Lotus lettering is. I looked inside and can not see any place where anything may have struck the clam. Any thoughts? Do you think dealer will let the warranty cover this?
Thanks!

Are you sure nothing may have bumped it slightly? The fiberglass is thin so it wouldn't take much to flex it enough to crack the paint (I think).
edited: I guess there are some that have this same problem. Thank Jedi for the link...

Are you keeping anything in the trunk that slides around?

Mine did the same thing...just one spot...get the sector 111 bootee...afterwards I haven't noticed any new ones in at a month or two of driving (I daily driver her and constantly have stuff in the trunk)

yeah it sounds like fibreglass issues not paint, that happened on my GRP elan too, it was an easy fix though

theres the old thread i started

It must have been something hitting it, thats seems to be the only logical explaination.
Did any one ever get it fixed? And if so what did it run you?

Glad I added a Sector 111 bootie before I had any problems. The inside of the trunk is prett scary if left unprotected. Check out the bootie, it fits perfect and is cheap insurace against this problem:

no affiliation ... just a happy customer. Sorry about the paint cracking, that's a real bummer. At least you noticed it before it got any worse.

My car is at HRM where I showed them a spider crack under the clear coat on the trailing surface of the front clam (meaning it couldn't have been hit from a rock while travelling on the road). They are supposed to get an estimate for the repair for the body shop they use which I was told is Numme. Anyone have experience with this shop? I've had bad experiences with repainting panels and the paint flaking off. I just don't know if I should let them repair it or if I should deal with it (my car is CO with the three stage paint so I'm even more worried about matching). Any ideas?

Hi,
it is a wel known problem on the mk2 Exige...I have a few friends in France withe the same problem. It should be take in warranty by the dealer...
May be ask on Exiges.com if Lotus UK has made a recall.
The mk2 Exige fiberglass is standard fiberglass (as the mk1 Elise : easy to repair) the mk2 Elise is more like an Epoxy like new boats (more difficult to repair).
