Are there any other data plates on the blower or motor?
A:
No idea...not tearing my car apart just yet
Only found this pic on eliseparts

Fan motor?
A:
Looks like a centrifugal fan to me. Also looks like the plate is on the side of the fan, right where you can barely see the logo of the company that makes it.
A:
Looks like "KL"
A:
Umm.. That's an S1 heater blower.
AFAIK it's a completely different unit in S2's and especially since 2002 when A/C came out and a whole different heater/blower setup was introduced.
Bye, Arno.
A:
good point...their site wasn't clear on that. Thanks arno

Wew. Thought it was another poll about which color to get.

Or which wire color is best.
/Orange, of course
A:
S2 heater fan...seal the connections with silicone...and drill a drainage hole through the floor nearby...else the fan/resistor pack goes bad with lotsa water exposure.
A:
Stan, can you do this while it is on the car?
And can you get a name of the motor/model/etc?

Usually the motor will be fine but the resistor pack and/or wiring connectors tank. You drill from the inside, so you clear stuff. There may be way to drill from below, but you'd have to develop that and measure in conjunction with access to the inside. It's a clam off job to get to this fan. Often the shop will bend up the top of the radiator fins during the job so check.
A:
Sorry...I'm thick. Where the hell do you drill the hole at?
A:
My blower motor went bad and the dealer just replaced it in consultation with Lotus. They removed the clam, and told me they had to drill a hole to let water drain out of the compartment. I haven't picked it up yet, so I don't have any more details than that. I was told that getting access to the blower even with the clam off was extremely difficult (and it was the first one they had done at my dealer). I was also told that Lotus is going to come out with some instructions to the mechanics on how to do this most efficiently.
I should get the car back on Wednesday.

You have seemed really confused by colors and polls lately...

they replaced mine......wasnt the problem....the evaporator core is freezing up.....but they wouldn't listen to me......quits blowong out of vents.....turn off the a/c only not the blower and after 2 minutes it starts blowing hard again. But now when i got it back....it doesn't blow on 2. My other problem is my blower always seemed weak....it is actually blowing out of the defrost vent all the time....making the vents weaker.....anyone else have that problem.
A:
Sorry, can someone take a pic of where the drainage hole is to be drained?
Thanks.
BTW...found the source for the fan. http://www.spal-usa.com
Stan, any idea what model might it be? Spal posts the measurements of the units, but I don't have mine off to measure
I think it'd be either of these.

I just got my car back yesterday with the blower replaced and the drainage hole put in. I will see about putting it up on stands tonight to find the hole.
I was told that Dave Simpkin (national Lotus service rep) took a look at it while the clam was off, and said to put in the drainage hole. I was the first car that Symbolic has had to do this to, and that it was a lot of work. I was also told that a second one is about to get the blower replaced and the drainage hole put in.
Unless Lotus wants to start replacing a lot of blowers under warranty, they better figure out a way to put in the drainage hole cheaply - either with precise drilling from below or a really long drill bit extension from above (without removing the clam, of course). It would probably be cheaper for them to do a voluntary recall to put in the hole. Replacing the blower is very expensive due to the large amount of labor, and they are paying for it while it is under warranty.
®ob,
How much does the blower cost from the source you found versus buying from lotusgarage.com?
