Poll: Does your AC work well?

Interior Exterior

Q:
It seems like more people have hot air blowing out of the vents with the heat off than those that say the AC is weak. If your Elise is blowing hot air out of the vents with the heat off then how can the AC be working as good as it's supposed to? Wouldn't it would have to compete with the heater core?
I was driving around today using the AC to combat the heater and it did the job, but I can't say I'm really that happy with it.

Mine works great on 90 degree day with high hunidity

i have one the works a few minutes until it freezes up and has to be thawed. then it works a few more minutes until it has to be thawed. etc. i would like Lotus to make it work properly
A:
picked-up the car yesterday!
the a/c works adequately so far. i avoid using it anyway.
i wish the vents could be directed to my face. there seems to be only up and down adjustment and not sideways.

Try rotating the vent.

Mine is fine...Ive had better..but its ok.

I try to avoid driving mine during the hottest part of the day. I didn't order a hard top, but lucked out because Sleepless replaced his with a carbon fiber unit and I bought his.
So far, it looks like the hard top helps in hot weather.
A:
Mine doesn't work very well at all. It is fine early in the day, but just can't keep up with sunshine. It's very bad in stop and go traffic. Lotus should do something about this problem and fast. It is a health and safety issue for many of us.

Works great....as long as it's not hot out, and you are not on the highway.

yeah, i seem to remember something about all those thousands of people dying every year in their cars before A/C was invented....
A:
I wonder if the hard top has something to do with it. I have mine on and the A/C works just fine.
A:
Same here. Works like in any other car. We just came from 2300mile trip and used A/C about half the time. I only wish the low speed setting was even slower and quieter.

When I am moving (i.e. highway traffic) it is tolerable. When it has been sitting all day (cover or not) or I am stuck in traffic, the car just does a poor job of cooling. There is so little difference between the first and third click on the fan knob that I wonder why I bother.
Certainly there has to be a fix. If Lotus does not have one, then I hope that our friendly retailers are working on an improved compressor/condensor (whatever is not working right).
Those who say theirs works well have not experienced Texas heat and humidity. This is really disappointing in a modern car. I expect it in my 1986 911 Turbo, but not is a 1005 vehicle.

Okay. Now that it's getting hot in Phoenix, NO!!!!!! Some time it works well -sometimes it doesn't.

From trying the A/C with the hard top and soft top, I can say that the hard top helps, but the A/C is still way too weak for a hot/humid climate.
Lotus needs to do something about this.
A:
My A/C does not work at all. I called dealer this morning as I felt like a chicken in an oven this past weekend in New York with all of the heat and humidity. I hope they will have a fix for it and warranty it all.
I'm waiting for a call back.
A:
It’s been very hot and humid in CT for the past week. My AC works like a charm.
A:
Works well for about 10 minutes, then slowly starts working worse and worse until it doesn't work at all. Shut it off and let it rest for about 20 minutes, then you can start the cycle again. It is quite frustrating.
A:
My car was delivered last July and the AC would shut down about every 20 minutes in very hot and humid weather. If you shut it off and then turned it back on after 5 minutes it would work fine for another 20 minutes. Talk t Tony Shute about it at the LOG and he said some of the early cars had the temp sender for the air conditioning positioned so that it iced up. There is a service bulletin on repositioning it. Had it done to mine and no problems since. If your air doensn't work at all, remember you must press the small blue button between the fan and temp controls each time (and after) you start the car...Dave
A:
same here, works great for short trips, I even try not to keep it on lower temp but eventually it freezes and quits, probably not 10 minutes but definetly under 30mins.
Then again, could be heat from the engine that negates me feeling the a/c. But I doubt that, after I get home sweating like a pig to change clothes/car I get a big puddle of water so I think it's icing up.
