Poll: Does your AC work well?

Interior Exterior

Q:
>>Anybody have an idea around what serial number lotus began repositioned the temperature sensor (to fix the icing problem)?
higher than 231 since I do have the problem too.
A:
and apparently higher than 490

Its 100 degrees in Texas and the A/C just won't cool the car. I called the dealership they asked for my VIN and said that they have a two step process. First the will evacuate the entire system and refill with freon. Then if that doesn't work there is a Lotus fix for this that is on a 2 month back order. I believe its a kit to reposition the A/C temperature sensor. I"ll know more on Wednesday when I take it in.

in the hot climate of Arizona. If I park my car in the sun for just ten minutes, it does not cool off inside the car the whole way back home, or wherever.
Very poor power on the a/c unit and as the temperatures in the valley continue to raise, it will get worse and worse.
The need a much more powerful max switch.

I checked the location of my AC sensor yesterday. Took 10 mins. It was in the proper / new place.
My AC doesn't work well. Seems to freeze up.
Next plan is to increase the voltage to the AC fan motor. Maybe 16v to give it an extra boost. Hopefully the motor can take a little more juice without burning out.
A:
do you have the touring package?
have fun

Is it really that easy to get to the sensor? If so, maybe I should tackle it myself rather than letting the dealer handle it.

I have Touring.
I have the Lotus step by step instructions for the ac sensor fix.
PM me and I'll send themtonight when I get home.
Looking at the sensor location is easy. Moving it if need be is a little harder.
Cut tie wrap and re tie wrap.
Remove passenger side access panel in front of car. Same panel where fuse block is located.
Use key fob to moblize the car (turn off alarm so car will start)
Disconnect neg on battery.
Remove fuse block up front. 2 screws.
Swing fuse block out of the way.
Remove flex duct. About 4" in dia. no tie wraps or anything else holding it.
Look down into air box ( the item that the air duct was attached to) and you can see the evaporator and sensor.
The Lotus instructions give exact details on where and how to move it.
I skipped the remove neg from battery part. I temporary tie wraped the fuse block onto the hood so it was safely out of the way.

jim, the other thing that can cause A/C freeze up is too low a coolant charge. you may have had both issues.

Good point, I'll check it.
Where's the R12 when you need it?
A:
Seems to blow cold for a while, then drops down to just cool-ish - maybe I have the sensor positioning problem. Will have to try delliot00's technique!
Almost at 1,000 mile service, will see what they can do and report back.

I've been using it lately and mine works better that way, but it's on my list for when I take it to the dealer.

having not ever had a true convertable before are you all saying that the ac should work well enuf to cool you even with the top off? mine sure doesnt but i figured it was those little holes blowing cold air just not able to keep up with that BIG hole blowing 90 degree hot air at 90mph. i have tried various positions on the vents and nothing seems to do it. but with the top ON everything seems to be fine. btw am i the only one who keeps forgetting to punch the little ac button every time i start the car or accidentally turn the blower off? i will be driving along sweating like a pig and realize the little blue light isnt on !@!$%% .
A:
... that BIG hole blowing 90 degree hot air at 90mph...
I thought you were making another negative comment about a certain family member but then I realized you were talking about the radiator duct. I think.

I thought you were making another negative comment about a certain family member but then I realized you were talking about the radiator duct. I think. HELL NO the wifes a lot worse than that. i was actually refering to the lack of a roof when driving with the top off, around ark this time of year its at least 90 degrees or better and im usually driving about 90 thats a lot to ask the ac to overcome
A:
THis is great. I'm dropping off at the dealer tomorrow. My VIN 0194, so definitely needs the relocation.
A:
Very helpful post.
Hmm...looks like my car (Serial # 2984) should already have had the fix, so perhaps there is something else wrong with the A/C. I'll get them to verify sensor position anyway when I put it in for service.
A:
Took the car to the delayer they did the exact service bullietin metioned above and the car is doing great in 98 degree heat here in Texas
